Top Oil District 36 Dirt Trock Series District 36 Moose Northern California Championship Enduro Series District 36 Motul Northern California B/C Championship Enduro Series District 36 Moose Western Regional Cross Country Championship Series District 36 Motul Spring B/C Championship Cross Country Series District 36 Motul Fall B/C Championship Cross Country Series Awords Banquet: Richmond Memorial Auditorium Brandt, Casey Lead D36 Winners By LISA K. GRAGG RICHMOND, CA, JAN. 15 istrict 36 hosted its 26th annual awards banquet. About 700 people showed up to celebrate those who received awards in the 2004 District 36 Moose Western Regional Cross Country Champion Series, the District 36 Moose Northern California Championship Enduro Series, and the Top Oil District 36 Dirt Track Series. jordan Brandt claimed the hard-earned and well-deserved dual championship titles for cross country and enduro. He was only the second rider ever to win both number-one plates in the same year. (Brian Sperle did it just last year.) Danny Casey's hard work and determination paid off with his number-one plate for winning the Dirt Track Championship Series. Several riders made more than one trip to the stage. Ron Day. John Wells and Sperle all claimed awards in both cross country and enduro. Sperle had a challenging start this year but ended up with the number-two plates in both cross country and enduro. On the dirt· track scene, two generations of the Bacosa family were on hand to take home awards: Sportsman class winner Jermaine Bacosa, Veteran class winner Robert Bacosa Jr., and Senior class winner Robert Bacosa Sr. District 36 president Dave Picket gave special thanks to the guests of honor, which included AMA representatives, Deputy Director of California State Parks OHV Division Daphne Greene, and off-road legends Joe Leonard, Chris Carr, Jim Odom and "Bad Brad" Lackey. The fifth annual Jim Hutzler Award, which is given to only one person per year for their outstanding dedication and service to motorcycling within District 36, was presented to Motion Pro's Chris Carter by 2003's winner, Ed Tobin. Jim Barrow and Heather Wilson emceed the event. Wilson, District 36's Women's cross country steward, presented Anne Creson with a special award from Powers ports of Vallejo: Female Rider of the Year. Racing stewards Bob Bacosa, jim Peacock and Duane Scott presented awards to winners in their respective disciplines. KTM's Revelle Harrison and Patrick Garrahan were on hand to give out prizes and contingencies to awards winners who ride KTMs. The evening included dinner, as well as the D SO auctioning off of great prizes such as Nascar tickets, and there were also many awesome raffle prizes. A special raffle for a new Honda XRSO (donated by Mach I Motorsports of Vallejo, California, and The Redneck Roosters Motorcycle Club) helped to earn funds for the Legislative Action Office, which fights for riding rights in Northern California. Cross country steward Scott, and his wife, Sharon, and their daughters Sara and Michelle, along with 2005 's director of competition, james Davis, put in many hours organizing this event celebrating 50 years of organized racing in District 36. Many others helped to pull this large event together, and their efforts are much appreciated. District 36 is looking forward to the next 50! District 36 Motion Pro/MotuI Northern California Youth Cross Country Series District 36 Youth Enduro Series Top Oil District 36 Flat Track Youth Series Awards Banquet: Richmond Memorial Auditorium No Growing Pains Here! By LISA K. GRAGG RICHMOND, CA, JAN. 15 istrict 36's Cross Country Youth Series' growth has been nothing less than phenomenal: In just four short years, it has become one of the largest Youth off-road programs in the country. Since its inception in 2000, under the direction of AI Fitch the program has grown even faster than the kids! James Davis came on board in 2004 to assist Fitch as points director, and a new transponder scoring system was installed. Averaging hundreds of Youth riders per event, they are also aided by a scoring crew. We are not just talking quantity here. District 36 is producing some of the fastest offroad Youth riders in the country. Last year was the first year District 36 sent its top two Youth riders - Jonathan Davis and Garrison "The Wisp" Gragg - to try their skills against the riders of the East Coast GNCC Youth series. In two states, they trophied in each class, and in Maryland, at the GNCC National Hare Scrambles, Gragg claimed the overall Youth cup. Hundreds of kids are all fired up to see how far they can go with hard work. dedication, skill, and lots of practice. The Youth banquet was held along with the 26th annual District 36 awards banquet, which about 700 people attended. The kids spent the year not only earning trophies and points to move up to faster classes, but also contingencies and Moose Bucks. KTM's Revelle Harrison and Patrick Garrahan were on hand to reward KTM riders with contingencies, as well as gifts of hats and sweatshirts. AMA has recently recognized District 36's Cross Country Women's program as the largest women's off-road program in the country. Now running under the guidance of District 36's new Women's steward, Heather Wilson, who is assisted by Ann Creson, there is much support for the program from kids, husbands, sponsors, and the other women. The Youth Enduro Series runs a handful of D events a year, and it's growing each year. The riders range in age from 7 to 15. The 60- to 65mile races run apprOXimately two timed, technical loops. Youth Enduro trophies were handed out by District 36's 2004 Northern California Enduro Champion, Jordan Brandt. The Flat Track Series certainly has the most history here: This all-American sport started in the USA in 1896. Approximately 20 Youth riders participated in the series, which runs almost every weekend from March through October. Some of the riders are second- and third-generation competitors. Legendary flattrack racer Chris Carr helped hand out trophies to the Youth winners. Everyone was happy to see Carr, as he himself started out in this same series as a boy. eN FINAL STANDINGS 0]6 Motion Pro/Motul Northern California Youth Cross Country Series C/A: I. jonathan Davis; 2.
