Advanced clean in the highly technical section
five, which featured a tricky slab descent,
Andrew Oldar jumped off into the lead after
the first loop, with earlier leader Chris Cullins in
hot pursuit. Ian Delaney pulled off the best
score of the second loop, but he remained in
third due to a tough first lap. Cullins pulled
ahead of Oldar in the deep water section on
the last loop, which Oldar lived. Up to the
challenge, Oldar refused to touch his foot down
again in the trial, and Cullins' three more dabs
dropped him back into second, though
comfortably ahead of Delaney.
Tori Carrillo led the Novices from start to
finish, while it took Chase Harker three
sections to grab the Intermediate lead, which
he then never relinquished. Jonathan Beck had
no problem taking a win in the Sportsman class.
The father-and-son team of Anthony and
Ryan Sandoval easily won the Expert and
Master classes, respectively, as six-monthspregnant Yvonne Sandoval (Anthony'S wife and
Ryan's mom) sat out the event.
There was talk at the riders' meeting of
awarding double points for foul-weather
events. Afterward, most of the riders agreed
that it was so much fun splashing through the
drenching that they'd still have been there even
if it had been a no-points event.
Series. American Suzuki/WMR-backed Kyle
Tobin had an impressive weekend. winning
eight out of the nine motos he entered.
In the first moto of the 250cc B class,
Jonathan Camp pulled the holeshot, with Tobin
in tow. With a hard, aggressive charge, Tobin
overrode Camp to take the lead and the moto
win. Camp settled for second, while Tyler
livesay, Jacob Miiler and Zach Miller wrapped
up the top five positions.
In the second and third motos, Tobin
maneuvered his bike into the lead on the stallS.
With consistent and smooth rides. Tobin
finished 1-1-1 overall for the weekend. Camp
had a solid ride in moto two, working his way
up from the back of the pack into the fourth
position, which gave him second overall for the
weekend. Livesay put in great rides for a 3-2-3
tally and third place on the podium.
The 85cc (12-13) class was stacked with
competition. North Carolinas' Ian Trettle took
every holeshot aboard his Suzuki and scored
1-1-1 finishes. Kyle Goerke put together some
great motos. going 2-2-5 for second overall. In
the first mota, Goerke kept Trettle in sight. and
they both checked out on the rest of the pack.
Justin Barcia was a top contender, but
unfortunately he could not finish mota one due
to a flat tire. Rounding out the top three was
Derek Hall (3-7-2), who had a great battle with
