Vandermolen Celebrates
Christmas Early
By
BART NEWMAN
ZEELAND, MI, DEC. 23
'Twas the night before the night before
I Christmas. and Asa Vandermolen lit up
the BScc C class at Zeeland Indoor MX. running
away with a pair of moto victories aboard his
Mom & Dad/Treds & Sleds-backed KXBS. beating out runner-up Chelsie Kruger.
When the BScc C class left the line. Kruger
and Vandermolen launched off the gate first.
Vandermolen led the charge into turn one by a
bikelength, with Kruger hot on his heels. Just off
their pace were Jonathan Feeback and Tyler
Ralston. Vandermolen quickly opened up a lead.
Kruger was riding well but couldn't match
Vandermolen's speed. The fight over third was
good, with Feeback and Ralston banling it out.
Vandermolen would not be denied, and with
two laps to go he had built a lead he wouldn't
relinqUish. The running order stayed the same
right to the checkered flag, as Vandermolen
grabbed the win by half a lap. Kruger was
second, ahead of Feeback, who was able to
hold off all of Ralston's advances.
In mota [Wo, Vandermolen was quick on the
gas and shot off the line when the gate dropped,
leading the pack into turn one with a bigger lead
than in moto one. Feeback was in second but
was feeling pressure from Kruger, who was all
over his rear wheel. Ralston ran fourth. Kruger
soon got around Feeback and tried to close the
gap on Vandermolen, but that wasn't going to
happen, as Vandermolen proved to be the class
of the field and once again opened up a lead he
would not give up. By the halfway point. it was
going to take a big mistake on Vandermolen's
part for anyone to catch him, because he was
rolling fast and riding smart. Kruger built up a
lead over Feeback. who was third, and Ralston
was still fourth. That running order stayed pat for
the remainder of the mota, grving Vandermolen
the second-mota win and the overall. Kruger
finished second in both motos as well as overall.
Feeback rounded OUt the top three.
"The ZMX facility is cool." Vandermolen
said after the race. "They do a great job with
the track. My starts were good today, and I
really liked the rhythm section before the
whoops; I felt really strong there, which helped
me get the wins today."
Brad Lodholn took the win in the 12Scc C
class, despite gening beaten by Zack Corey in
mota two. Lodholtz won the first mota with a
good ride, topping Andrew Rogers and Ron
Sned after early leader Corey got upside down
early in the mota. Corkee Baughan rounded
out the top five. In moto two. it was Lodholtz
pulling the pack through tum one, with Corey
on his rear fender. On lap two. Corey went by
and rode home with the win, but a runner-up
finish by Lodholn gave him the overall. Corey's
score was good for second overall. and Rogers'
pair of thirds was good for third overall.
