Team Suzuki's GNCC Champion Rodney
Smith was hanging out in the pits at SBC
Parle Smith recently broke his leg racing
motocross close to his home in nearby Antioch, California. Smith will most likely miss the
first few rounds of the GNCC Series, which
gets under way in a few weeks in Texas.
Team WBR riders Ryan Sipes, Richie Owens
and Ryan Morais have all been on a roll
recently and have been giving David Bailey a
lot of credit for their success. Bailey has been
helping coach the trio of riders, and it has
been showing in their results. "It just came
about because I was tfying to help [Ryan}
Sipes get a ride," Bailey said. "I've been
working with him, just long distance, for a
long time, and in the process, I met Brad
Williams, who is the owner, so we became
friends over the phone. One thing led to
another and he asked me to help the whole
team, and I had the time. It looked like the
last good piece of real estate out there, you
know? You know, the guys don't just listen they execute, which is refreshing. A lot of
people listen, but it's difficult to go out and
actually execute that stuff, and so far these
guys have."
Team Cernics/Red BulVSuzuki rider Travis
Pastrana is reportedly taking a trip to Austria
for two weeks to rehab his injured wrist. It is
uncertain as to when he might return to
action.
Pro Circuit's Dave Chase said that this week
Pro Circuit will be releasing a new four-stroke
muffler designed to pass the sound test at a
supercross race and which can be bought off
the shelf, making life a little easier for the privateer riders. Uke everyone else, privateers
are now required to pass the tough sound
regulations, which are now being strictly
enforced by the AMA
In case he wins again, don't look for Ricky
Carmichael to be performing any celebratory
dance moves in James Stewart's absence.
''I'm low key; I don't need to flaunt anything,"
Carmichael said. "I just want to be myself, and
if it's thrOWing my hands up in the air and
being happy, then that's what it's going to be.
If I did a dance, or something like that, I think
it would be me trying to be someone I'm not.
I can't dance."
Team Motoworldracing.com has been using
the new Bell Moto 8 helmet for a few weeks
now. The all·new helmet is yet to be
released. Look for it soon at dealers.
After finishing second in the muddy Anaheim I
I25cc main event, Samsung Honda's Josh
Woods has been stined in his efforts to
make another main event, let alone visit the
podium again. "It has been really frustrating
these last couple weeks," Woods said. "It
has been the first two times that I have not
qualified for supercrOS5es. I have been
struggling a bit with the bike, but I think
that I have been struggling mentally more
than anything." While he said that he felt
good in practice at SBC Park, Woods failed
to qualify for the third straight week.
