Mutant Matorsports Final Five Showdown
Round 4: La Grange OHV Park
Loredo Lances la Competencia
at La Grange
By
KRIS HALlEE
LA GRANGE, CA, DEC. 12
eavy rains had pounded much of Northern
California earlier in the week, but the
weekend forecast was clear, so track conditions
would be fantastic for round four of Mutant
Motorsports' Final Five Showdown at La
Grange OHV Park: Most of the water had run
off the track, and the sandy soH is better when
wet anyway_ Riders came in droves, confident
they would be riding a pristine track throughout
the weekend.
Chris Loredo was looking to repeat his
success in the Pro class. Returning from injury,
he had dominated the competition at round
three at Club Moto, winning both Pro classes
and a large purse in the Dash For Cash.
AmaZingly, all his wins had come aboard a
H
Berkeley Honda/Up Front MXlJN Innovationsl
Posey Racing Engines/TCR CRF2S0, proving
that he has the skill to win!
The 2s0cc Pro class was missing a few
familiar numbers, but the talent was still deep;
with riders such as Steve "Iceman" Hernandez,
Arik Swan and Josh Cox in the mix, there was
definitely no "sure thing." Loredo didn't get the
start he needed to build an early lead; instead
he was chasing Swan and Matt Gaines for the
first lap. Swan and Loredo pulled away from the
rest of the field over the next six laps, with
Loredo sneaking by Swan on the last lap for a
very close win.
The 12Scc Pro class fell 14 motos later, with a
large and talented 12scc Intermediate class
second-gated behind the Pros. Loredo made it
look easy, taking the lead on lap three and then
the win. Unsurprisingly, the top four Intennediates
- Kris Triest, Justin Posey, Greg Karmann and
Curtis Roe - pushed each other all the way up into
the Pro class. finishing right behind the thirdplaced Pro from a second-gate start!
In the spectator-favorite Dash For Cash, the
fastest big-bike Novices, Intermediates and
Pros battle for four laps in a winner-take-all
race. For the second consecutive week, the
purse was the largest it had been in the series,
and Loredo took the "green" once again,
aboard his Honda CRF2S0.
Swan tried to find a chink in Loredo's armor
in the second 2s0cc Pro mota. Swan still had a
fighting chance for the overall. Luck was on
Swan's side: Loredo would have to work his
way from dead last to catch the leader, Swan.
However, lap after lap, Loredo passed rider
after rider, moving into second before the
white-flag lap. Swan was riding smoothly and
conSistently, though, and his lead was too large
for Loredo to overcome. Swan took the
44
checkers, the mota win. and a hard-fought
overall victory.
Nevertheless, there was no denying that
Loredo was the mono destroying the 12Scc Pro
class in the second moto by going I-I for the
overall victory.
Riders collected their trophies as the sun
was setting, closing the lap-sheets on another
Mutant Motorsports motocross race.
