Chris Anderson Mini-Series Round 2: Wi/dwood Motocross Superfly Strikes Againl By Roy JENKINS KENTVVOK>D, LA, DEC. 12 B eoUly. That's the word that best described the weather, the track, and the racing. Although the turnout was low, the racing was tight among several competitors on this long, hilty, moist motocross track. Track owner Lynn Lejeune had the track ready to go, as well as a new sign-up building, more fencing and bleachers. Adam Hancock was the first out of the pack in the 125cc Expert class on his Donnie O's/Champion Cycle 125cc KTM. It didn't take long (or a 250F four-stroke to catch up on this horsepower-robbing track, and it was piloted by Cody Smiley. They went handlebar to handlebar (or a few laps, while Tennessee's Blair Miller worked his 250F Suzuki into the fray, giving Laurel, Mississippi's Hancock all he could handle. Smiley's smile disappeared when he dropped out due to mechanical difficulties, while Hancock continued to fight of( Miller. With a great surge of speed up the hill to the new double on the last lap, Hancock put three seconds on Miller to protect against a late charge. Miller did charge but couldn't qUite make the pass on the last uphill turn, leaVing the win to Hancock. Miller went on to win mota two, in front of Hancock and Chauvin, Louisiana's Tracey Lecompte. One of the fastest classes of the day was the BScc Open class. Kirby Dodd and Dylan Benoit shocked the class by taking the early lead until they reached the giant step·up jump, where Skylar "Superfly" Phillips sailed over their heads on his Bardwell Yamaha. Dodd and Benoit continued their race (or second until they were ambushed by Suzuki-mounted Morgan Moss, who then attempted to run down Phillips, but he could only finish within four seconds o( Superfly, closely followed by Dodd, Benoit and Hunter Stewart. Phillips got off to a good start in the second (Hon); 2. Andrea Peny (Yam); l. Cole Williamson (Suz); 4. Marty Goree (Yam): 5. Paul Canter (Hon). 250 A: 1. Drew Askew (Yam); 2. D.C. The Senior Over 30 class was an evenly matched race o( fast, experienced riders. Randy Rector wasted no time getting his Honda 4S0F out in front of Hoot Parker, Craig Connelly and local hero Randy Fairburn. Connelly and Fairburn (ought hard over third in the Senior class and for the lead in the 250 Open class, while Rector and Parker dueled for first in the Senior and second in the Open Money class, behind Blair Miller. Rector and Connelly won those individual battles. In the second Senior mota, the starting order was reversed, with Fairburn leading Parker, Connelly and Rector. On the first lap, Rector picked off Connelly on the big step-up. Parker took a little longer to get Fairburn. Soon Parker was trying to run away from Rector, and Fairburn was holding off Connelly. By the last lap, Rector held a slight lead over Parker, while Fairburn held a similar margin over Connelly. Rector beat Parker to the checkers by a few seconds, and Connelly snatched third from Fairburn right at the finish-line jump. RESULTS SO (4·6): I. Blake Lagarde (KTM). 50 (1-8): I.
