Southern Championship Virgets Benefit Race Gravity Alley Motocross Pork Domingue's Dominion Bv Rov JENKINS BREAUX BRIDGE, LA, DEC. 11·12 M ike Shea put two good things together and got three. Gravity Alley combined its annual Southern Championship race with a benefit to help a needy motocross family. and pro· vided an entertaining event (or spectators and riders alike. Warren Virgets, his wife and two sons came home from work and school to find that their house had burned down. All they had left were their bikes and the clothes on their backs. Thomas Virgecs raced the 85cc (7.11) class and took fourth place, and his older brother Warren captured second place in the 125cc ::::-. and 250cc Novice classes. It didn't take long for local rider Ezra Angelle to check out I from the combined 65cc (6-8) and (9-1 I) field on his KTM. Behind him, Tyler Whitmore (rom Brookeland. Texas. led the chase on his Suzuki, with a straightaway between himself and a whole line of riders fighting for third. Koi Westbrook stepped up to lead the 6-8 class on his KTM, followed by Shaw Guillotte .J I ~ ~ I - ~ Feb 19th & 20th Lake Whitney, TX 0817.270.1814 olakewhltneymx. com and Trent Jones. Eventually. Guillotte took over the lead for good in the younger class, while out front Angelle almost lapped the whole field en route to victory in both motos. Next, it was Jeremy Domingue's turn to show his speed with a dominating performance in the 85cc (7-15) class, By the completion of the first lap, Domingue's red rocket had a giant lead over Honda riders Jude Patterson and Dane Dumesnil. Brandon Champagne was moving his Kawasaki up, with $uzukimounted Brandon Tilghman in tow. While Domingue was slinging dirt and kissing fenders at warp speed out front, Champagne and Dumesnil moved past Patterson to finish in a podium spot, behind Domingue. Then Domingue took the checkered in the second moto as well, with room to spare in front of Dumesnil and Champagne. The 51 cc (4-8) Open class had a close race between Westbrook and Guillotte. They each took a turn getting stuck in wet ruts, duck-paddling out, losing pOSition, then rejoining the battle. The seesaw battle for the lead finally ended at the checkered flag. with Westbrook holding on for the win on his KTM, over Guillotte on his Lem. The second mota had the same result, but Guillotte had to shake off the after-effeccs of a nasty face-plant right in front of the finish-line jump to remount and finish a strong second. In the combined 85cc (7-11) and (12-15) classes, Domingue was lapping riders on the first lap on his way to another sweep! Finishing behind him in the 85cc (12-15) class were Jared Matheme (3-2) and Dumesnil (2-3). In the younger class, Dillon Van Way snatched a double mota sweep on his Champion Cycle KTM, in front of Champagne (2-2), Angelle (3-4) and Thomas Virgecs (5-3). Breaux Bridge's Bryce Landry led fellow Schoolboy Tyler Ball until Ball highsided out of contention. Mike Hebert took second, pushed by Matt Chambers. Landry coasted to victory, In moto two, Ball stayed with Landry until he cross-rutted in a turn and lost valuable time. Landry won by five bikelengths.
