loud cheers. "I feel that the crowds have
been just awesome," McGrath said, "and I
really appreciate it."
Former AHA 250cc National Motocross
Champion and factory Suzuki rider Greg
A1bertyn has been attending the Anaheim
events, and the South African has been paying
attention to his old team's improved perlonnances. He said he thinks it's great. "I'm very,
very happy for them, because I've got a lot of
friends there that have put in tons of hours, so
much effort, and have kind of banged their
heads against the wall, proverbially, for so
many years. I'm very for them. Ricky is such
an incredible champion, and the four-stroke is
coming along really well for its first year."
Speaking of Suzuki, if Roger DeCoster is not
one of the happiest team managers in the
supercross pits these days, then the man they
call "The Man" must be incredibly difficult to
please. Following Suzuki's first double win at
an AHA Supercross round in Phoenix last
weekend, Ricky Cannichael and Sebastien
Tortelli gave the team its first 2SOcc heat race
one-two finish since Travis Pastrana and Kevin
Windham did the same for Suzuki in heat one
at Anaheim II on January 19,2002, and
Carmichael won another main event. "I am
very happy," DeCoster said. "Ricky has been
doing a tremendous job, and Sebastien has
been doing good. Broc [Hepler] won last
weekend, and he had a little trouble [crash]
this weekend, but it could have been a really
nasty one, and he could have been hurt, but
he came out of it pretty good. I think our
team has been bUilding for several years and
has been getting better and better. We won
the outdoor tide with Greg [A1bertyn], but
supercross was never really his strength. Now
we have a good base, and we have to keep
improving. We are a work in progress, and we
always will be." Cannichael is also the first rider
to win at Anaheim on three different brands of
motorcycles (Kawasaki, Honda and Suzuki).
