At the opening round at Speedworld MX Park in Phoenix, Arizona, January 16, the 2002 WORCS champ took the win in the hotly contested two-hour Pro race, thus giving Team Suzuki OffRoad the distinction of being the first to give the brandnew RM-Z4S0 four-stroke its first taste of victory in the United States. Team Green's Lance Smail led the early going before surrendering to the "MX Kied" and ended up 30 seconds behind for second place on his KX2S0, while defending series champ Nathan Woods took his Montclair YamahalZip-Ty Racing YZ4S0F to third, another 30 seconds back. Tim Weigand, fresh off a ISth place finish in the previous night's 125cc Supercross Westclass race, was fourth on his CRF2S0R, while local favorite Destry Abbott rounded out the top five on his Team Green KX2S0. "Suzuki had a real good weekend with the Supercross in the 12Ss and 2S0s [won by Suzuki racers Broc Hepler and Ricky Carmichael]," Kiedrowski said, "now, the WORCS race. I'm really happy with the bike. When I got on it and rode it halfway through the year [last year] with R&D, I knew we'd have a good bike. I like riding a bigger-size bike; I ride them well. I just tore up my hands with blisters - all of us had blisters! It was a rough track, real rough." Road Race For Kids, a Dallas, Texas-based 50 I c (3) nonprofit corporation, has announced a track day fund-raiser. Road Race For Kids combines the appeal of motorcycle road racing to show kids alternatives to drug and alcohol abuse, according to Road Race For Kids. The track day will be held on Monday, january 24, at Motor Sport Ranch, located just south of Forth Worth in Cresson, Texas. The track will be run counter-clockWise, the same way it will be run in the first round of the 200S CMRA series. Track space is limited to 45 licensed racers only, on race ready machinery. Cost for the event is a donation of $125 or more, with the organization [0 receive I OO-percent of the money raised. Honda Confirms 2005 Motorcycle Racing Plans Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced the final details of its plans for participation in World Championship motorcycle raCing. The company's program was outlined in a worldwide press release issued on January 16. "Honda's spirit of challenge is rooted in its motorsport activities," the release stated. "By constantly striving to fulfill its own dreams and aspirations through the ongoing challenge of leading-edge innovation, Honda also delivers dreams and excitement to its customers. "For the 200S motorcycle racing season, Honda has set its sights on recapturing the rider's title and retaining the manufacturer's title in MotoGp, the top class of world championship road racing, aiming to secure the championship in each category." MotoGP: FIM 2005 Road Race Championship Series In the MotoGP class of the FIM 2004 Road Race Championship Series, Honda plans to race seven 200S model Honda RC21 IVs, with the aim of capturing a double title in both the riders and the manufacturer's categories. The Honda RC211V has undergone further refinements as it enters its fourth season of racing. In the 2S0cc class, Honda will field six bikes and three teams, and has nominated Yuki Takahashi (last year's japanese GP2S0-class champion) as the second recipient of the Honda Racing Scholarship, established last year. Last year's recipient was Hiroshi Aoyama. This year, Honda will race three Montesa COTA 4RTs eqUipped with a newly developed four-stroke engine in a bid to win its sixth consecutive series title. Fujio Yoshimura, head of the world-famous tuning house, said: "We have only had a very short development period, but even at this early stage, the new GSXR IOOOKS is already starting to supply higher power figures on our engine dyno.
