Miller in tow. Schmid had the early lead but ended up with a DNF. The start of the second 2SOcc Pro moto was similar to the first: Schmid was up front, followed by David and Miller. Both would make the pass on Schmid on lap three. With David pushing forward, and the number-one overall spot on the line, Miller crashed on lap four while trying to find a way past David, who went 2-1 for the overall 2S0cc Pro win. Miller's crash left him ninth at the finish, earning him fifth overall. Schmid's good starts paid off with second overall, thanks to his consistent 3-3 finishes. As the day was coming to an end, Miller found redemption in the second 12Scc Pro moto, leading every lap over David and the rest of the field and taking the checkered flag unchallenged for the overall 12Scc Pro win. Josh had an easier day in the 125cc and 2S0cc Novice classes, leading every lap of all four motos and taking the both overall wins. RESULTS 50 SHAFT: ,. AMP Super Gold Cup Octoberfest Series Oatfield Raceway Harting Turns Up the Heat By JIM AND JUSTIN ENOS TURLOCK, CA, NOV. 14 n the always-competitive Pee Wee class, KTM pilot Jayson Harting was on fire as he topped an II-rider field of 50cc Pee Wee Track (7-8) Stock-class competitors at the opening round of the 2004 AMP Super Gold Cup Octoberfest Series. Sponsored by Swift Dodge of Sacramento and Folsom Lake Yamaha, the series kicked off at the popular Oatfield Raceway, and nearly 350 riders were on hand to take on the alwayschallenging AMP-prepped track. The facility offers a totally separate Pee Wee track for the young up-and-comers, so they can hone their skills on a much easier layout. For Harting, though, things were far from easy on this day, as Jeffrey Carothers provided plenty of competition in the SOcc Pee Wee Track (7 -8) Stock class. Carothers, armed with a potent Polini, kept the field at bay right from the start as he took the early lead and never looked back. Harting stayed within striking distance the entire mota but was never able to challenge for the lead, and he had to settle for the two spot. Jordan Rosa rounded out the top three. In mota two, Harting got the jump on the I 34 field, with Carothers right on his rear fender. The two battled for several laps, and although Carothers made several attempts for the lead, Harting held his lines and took a close, welldeserved win over Carothers. Kyle Wells followed up in the third spot. The win gave Harting the overall, while Carothers' 1-2 score locked up the two spot on Bo Fawcett (105) nabs the holeshot in the speedy 12Scc B class, over Thomas Beckett (17) and Anthony Smith (35), at Ohio's District 12 season final in Millport. AMA District 12 Season Finale Northern Ohio Championship Series Round 7: Spring Valley Raceway MILLPORT, OH, NOV. 14 Jayson Harting was the 50c< Pee Wee Track (7-8) Stock-class winner at the opening round of the AMP Super Gold Cup Ocloberfest Series in Turlock, California. JANUARY 19,2005 • CYCLE NEWS The 2004 AMA District 12 outdoor season I came to an end with the final round of the Northern Ohio Championship Series. AHA newcomer Spring Valley Raceway had the honor of hosting the final race of the season and welcomed 300 racers to its facility with a first-class event. Subfreezing overnight temperatures left the track surface frozen in the early morning, making for very interesting practice sessions that included many slide-outs and spinning tires. But as the day wore on and the sun shone through, the Spring Valley track crew was able to tear through the shiny surface and regroom the entire facility, making for wonderful racing conditions. Making up part of the large racing crowd was a contingent of Canadian racers who had traveled south looking for warmer temperatures and some quality American racing to end the year. This was quite a diverse group and included racers in the Pee Wee, Women's, Vets, C and B classes. While all members of this group performed well and left an impression on their American competitors, the most successful on the day were Canadians Patricia Carter and Tina Wieringa; these two young ladies took the Women's class by storm and ran away with the top two poSitions, respectively. Ohioans Dannette Miles and Megan Walter did their best but fell just short and rounded out the class.
