From the most remote locations in Baja to the toughest WOReS race in the USA, the fastest off-road racers have one thing in common. Though he's ahead of Leonard Mellgren (53) in the overall CMRRA Expert championship points race, Sco" Garner (9) chases Mellgren on the track in Apple Valley, California. MX West Nevada State Championship Series Round J J: Fernley International Raceway Garrison Holds Down the Fort By ROBERT BEAUPRE FERNLEY, NV, NOV. 7 \ A fhile there is new talent developing throughout northern V V Nevada's motocross scene, Bobby Garrison was again the standout at round I I of the MX West Nevada State Championship Series. Garrison handily won both the 12Scc and 2S0cc Pro races aboard a pair of CRFs, putting on a show as he rode to immense leads in all four motos. Garrison wowed spectators as the first rider to clear a massive triple jump in the back section that was installed after practice. A handful of others made the jump later, but Garrison was the only 12Scc·c1ass pilot to successfully sail the gap. Garrison pulled off his 2S0cc win despite crashing in the second turn in the second moto. But even with the head start, the remaining Pros found Garrison out in front by the middle of the third lap. Butch Stillmock claimed second, behind Garrison, on the day. Garrison faced a gate full of a 4S0cc-and-up four-strokes in the 12Scc Pro race, as the Over 30 Pros started alongside the 12Scc Pros. Garrison didn't get the holeshot, but he did slice through some very capable veterans on his way to the front. Stillmock again followed Garrison to the finish to claim the Over 30 victory. k for the rest of the new talent, the Intermediate class was practically a Pro class itself. Aron Harvey, Cory Loudenburg and Ryan Hazen, among others, turned lap times that would make them competitive in any class on this day. Harvey edged out the field to top the 250cc contest aboard his YZ450F. Hazen followed for a strong second, while Loudenburg held down third. Loudenburg returned, however, to take the 125cc victory. The battles here were as intense as any, as Loudenburg, Hazen, Harvey and Travis Mciver all diced at the front at a pace that sent them drifting toward many of the Pros from the first gate. Harvey scored second spot on the day, and Mciver rode to third. NATIONAL HARE SCRAMBLES SERIES: BAJA 1000: Semi Pro: 1st.
