Invade Oakleyt

OAKLEY, IL, NOV. 14
f you saw a news brief that states. "Tune in at 10 for news on
motorcycles that invade Oakley, Illinois," what would you think?
It seems the media always tries to search out any bad thing
an off-road rider does. This time, though, that was not the case,
as every news channel had nothing but positive comments,
including how great motorcycle clubs are for the community!
Now, that's the kind of press that we all need!
In 1992. Dirt Riders - a small riding club located in Oakley made the decision to hold an event that would raise money for
a local charity. Twelve years later, they have raised more than
$30.000 for the benefit of those less fortunate. On this day. Dirt
Riders handed over a check for $1500 and a truckload of toys
to the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization.
"Our Christmas party is the big event for us," said an
organization representative, "and if it was not for you guys, then
it would not happen like it does. Thank you very much!"
At the riders' meeting, District 17 director Jay Hall reminded
all the riders to be courteous to their fellow riders on the
course. When treasurer John Gepford dropped the flag, the
riders were off and racing!
One of the best things about this event was that all aspects
of the sport were represented: There were motocross riders.
hare scrambles riders, flat-trackers and even trials riders.
Leading the pack to the overall was the "A team" of Tanner
England and Mike Wargo. England crossed the finish line with a
smile, while second went to the team or Jeff Kaylor & Daniel
Janus and third went to Derek Toberman & Raymond Devlin.
"The track was perfect!" England enthused. "This is a great
event. Everyone should ride this if they have a bike at all. Ie is so
much fun. I am glad that I upheld my end for our team and won
the event. We did not lead the whole thing. We had to work for
it, as Kaylor & Janus got out front early. but we just kept steady
and took the overall."
The SOcc, 6Scc and ascc classes were run earlier in the day.
The 6Scc-c1ass win went to Devlin' son Justin Devlin. Before
long, Justin and Raymond will be able to take part in a new class:
the father/son team race. With off-road riding being a family
sport, this new class is a natural. All who rode the class had big
smiles on their faces and had a good time. The first-ever
winners of the father/son race were Dave & Colton Edsall. It
was a welcome addition to an already-great program!
