Towards the end, w hen I finally took a peak bac k at him [LaRocco] I d idn 't see him . It was nice, because Mike is always a real so lid rider, but I t hink I've always been known as a pretty strong rider towards the end , too. I'm de finit ely looking fo rwa rd to Anaheim now." After getting o ff to a mid pack start, LaRocco seemed to have d ifficulty making quick passes, and by the time he did get up to fourth , he d id n't have enough time to mount a serious attack on Huffman . He had to settle for fourth after getting second the previous week. Rounding out th e top five w a s the d e fe n d ing World Superc ross Champ ion Heath Voss on the Mach I eN Ya m a ha YZ450F. Nick Wey , on the all-white MDK Motorsports Honda CR2S0R, was fast all weekend, after Ricky Carm ichael, Weyand Tim Ferry were battling for the second-fastest lap times heading into the evening's program . As for Wey's new team, MDK is the initials of team owner Mark D . Kvamme, the founder of last year 's Linked-In Kawasaki team, which is basically the same team as this year's except with a new name, a new look and new machinery. Team manager Danny Paladino said that the team's new rig is await ing fresh decals and should be ready for the opening round of the THQ AMA Supercross in Anaheim. The team will feature Wey in : he 250cc class and 17-year-old Eric McCrummen from Bre ntwood, California. Wey will ride the 2S0cc two-stroke indoors and the 450cc four-stroke for the Nat ionals, wh ile McCrum men, a former Kawasaki Team Green rider, will ride the 12Scc West Supercross Series and the 12Scc Nationals on a CRF250R. In Vancouver, Mach I aided the team by supplying the Honda for Wey to ride in Canada. The so il used for the Vancouver track was strange, to say the least. "I think this is going to be a season of consistency. Everybody knows that Bubba Dames Stewart] is going to be fast and, of course, Chad [Reed]: A little bit of speed is going to win, a little bit of consistency isgoing to win, and a little bit of heart and determination is going to win. If I don't win Anaheim, or if I don't win the first couple of races, I'm not going to freak. I know the press is going to be wiggin', saying, M, RC's done ,' or whoever isn't winning instantly is going to be the guy that should retire. It's going to be a battle, and I reallythink the strong is going to survive. "I think around Daytona - that's when things [will] start to change, because everybody rides good at least until they get to Daytona: then it seems like they fizzle out a little bit and they 're over Supercross and looking towards the outdoor. "The best thing for me to do is kind of be a little low-key [from now until Anaheim I]. As a racer, you kind of want to put everything aside and just do what you gorta to do. I have my game plan - Iwant to be the champion. I'm not going to get caught up with the race wins. I know what it takes to win the title. I believe my bike is good , and if I don't win, then it's my fault, because my bike is good , and I'm a man - I'll owe up to my butt whipping and say I got beat. I want to win the World title and the AMA Supercross [title], but it's going to be a struggle. We've got some great guys, but I feel that I can do it." "It' s pretty bad," one rider said. "The re are rocks on the face of jumps and it's kind of gnarly." And the rocks weren't kind to rims. "When was the last time you saw a nat spot on the rear wheel in a Supercross!" MDK Motorsports team manager Danny Paladino asked from the pits while pointing to one of Nick Wey's rear wheels . "The dirt was okay," third place finisher Damon Huffman said. ':A.ctualIy the berms were fun: it was mainly just , the rocks coming up, that was the main problem.
