Zach Osborne (338) kept it pinned to win two classes at the Project 50 Mayhem event at Georgia's Brem en Race Park. racing in the So utheast. Project 50 Mayhem fe atu red an event. th at paid out more than $1000 in cash to class winners. Yes, that's co rrect: a cash purse fo r a pit-bike race . w hat a conc ept! There were 12 events, including Freestyle and Step Up . Pop open a Red Bulland take a seat , 'cause here we go! The Youth class was won in a runa way by faa o ry KTM rider Zach Osborne , on an oran ge I 10cc brand-X mach ine. jeffrey Pet it too k second wi t h a go o d ride . Brandon Midd lebro oks put in a good perform ance and recei ved the last podium position . The Over 30 class was good one, a lso. David Giles fought hard and finally passed AMA official Tony Morris . w ho was on a larger bike , for the overall . Tim Corbin scored third place w ith a solid ride. Osborne to ok the M idsize Amateur division, w ith Pe t it in tow fo r se co nd ove ra ll. Tyler Martin scored th ird overall with a good effort. Midsize Pro saw Michae l Willar d take the ou win on O sbo rne's bike. Pe tit used the Y th class as practice and took second overall again. Je rry Mayo put in a good ride to win the final podium position . The next event was quite a show. Everyone has seen the Step Up competition on full-sized bikes . This was t he same prog ram , but on " fidd le s." The ta ke -o ff ramp was a vertical mound o f dirt that was 8 feet tall. with t he measure bars at the top of the mound , as wit h the big bikes, but scaled do wn for the smaller machines. Wou ld yo u believe the Amateurs and the Pros did the same he ight? Both classes managed to hit a total jump of 13.S feet from the floor; or 5.5 feet above the ram p - on pit bikes! The crowd we nt nuts. Karl johnson won the Amateur Vertical contest, and justin Morris too k top honors in the Pro event. Yes. the big-b ike riders do back nips. Of course. that me ans the Minis can. too , can't the y? The answer is yes: Tyler Martin won the Midsize Pro Free style contest. Martin also won th e Mid size Pr o Step Up con test . Lincoln Trail Rider Appreciation Weekend Da y I: Lincoln Trail Mofosp or ts Mahon Manhandles 'eml By BROC MIKEL CASEY, IL, OCT. 30 I t had rained hard mos t of the night be fore day one of Appreciation Weekend at Uncoln Trail. but by the time practice was over, the LT M crew had the track in good shape , and by the time the second set of motos were going off, the riders who had chosen not to race were Wishing they had! The first moto of the Women's class was the race of t he day, between O wen Honda rider Sheena Pate rson and Trackside Sales Kawasaki rider Brianna Mahon . Whe n the gate drop ped, Pate rson sh ot o ut fro nt an d was on the gas . Maho n also got a good jump a nd had he r Kawasaki in the Hon da's shad ow. Lap after lap, the girls battled , and a few time s they even made contact, but Maho n could not find a way arou nd Pat erso n - at least not until the last lap. when the two riders ap proac hed the triple tha t everyone had be e n c ircu mven ti ng a ll day, because of the mud . Pate rso n we nt wide and Mahon gra bbed a gea r and went for the dou ble! T he crowd he ld its collective brea th as Mahon flew over t he mud and past Pat erso n fo r the lead! On ce in t he le ad, Mahon put her head 60 down and went on for the moto w in. Paterson finished in second, and as she rode past Mahon after the flag. it didn' t look like she was happy being runner-up. As the secon d mota lined up for the race , the crowd lined the fences . Every one wanted to see a re match - but they would all have to wait for ano ther day, as Paterson didn't make the ca ll, for reasons unk nown . It' s more than likely that she will be back on the line next year, and that Mahon will be ther e , waiting to make it another great race! Wit h Pa tterso n go ne, Mahon had no pro ble m taking the mote w in and the overall victory. Second overall went to Kalee Meye r, and third overall went to Cassie Feagans. O ne O we n rider w ho made bot h motos was Suzuki rider [ace O wen. After having a late practice due to the track conditio ns, Owen was ready for the 65cc class. In the first mo ta, O we n had things under control and rode his Suzuki flaw le ssly to the mota w in. Dakota Blake ney finishe d se con d, and Qu e ntin jo nes finished third. Wh en th e ga te dro p ped fo r t he sec o nd rnoto , it was again O wen out front. Snyder was never beaten into turn one, and he hauled in four wins on the night. Snyder led t he SOScc Pro Tf w ith Mike Hacke r chasing , looking for a slip-up. Hacker slid o ut, but Snyder never bobbled on his way to the w in. Eldred Bristol mo ved into second, a hea d of Scott Larm and Ta dah iro Fukay a. Hacker remounted to finish fifth . The Open Pro TT wa s al most a carbon copy. w ith Snyder topping 450cc winner Bristol. Fukaya and Larm. Afte r easing thro ugh the 450cc short trac k, Snyder found Hacker breathing dow n his neck in the 505cc Pro class . Hacker cou ld stick a wheel in but co uldn't quite make the pass and finishe d a close seco nd . jaso n Goodw in had bee n working the high line, and he worked his way into third, over Bill Gruwe ll and Tim Eades. Hacke r stalked Snyde r once again in the Open Pro final and finally made the pass to take the wi n. Snyder stayed a close se co nd , and Chris Boone narrowly he ld on to thir d, over Good win. Cody Bowland filled in the to p five. over Eades, Bristol, Larm. Fukaya and Gruwell. Kelly Klynstra ruled t he ro ost in th e Vet , Se nior and Super Se nio r classes with a nearclean sweep. His only loss o n the night came at the hands of "Super Ed" C lark , w ho took the Vet win, over Klynstra and Ron Anderson. jeff Carver was smooth and fast as he took the holes hots and wins in the 200cc Pro -Am ranks. He nev e r bobbled. though Johnson , Lewi s and Fran kie Lee were looking for a mista ke , but they finished in that order. Blake Tabor he ld off Vowell, Dillon Atkins, Andrew Johnson , Hayde n Granda, jaco b Cunn ingham and Ricky Leak for the next spot. Michae l Johnson added the B5cc n to his w in list (w hic h a lready inc lude d th e 2S0cc Amateur and 160cc Fou r-Stroke classes) as he nabbed the holeshot and the victory. Hacke r and Eades had plenty of company in the Mad Dog fields, but when the nag flew. it was Hacker taking a pair of wins.
