Wh en Reed fell on t he first lap , Fe rguson shot into the lead, but Reed ra pidly made up valua ble seconds and ove rt oo k the leader again. Yamaha-mounted Reed maintained the lead fo r the re mainder, with Ferguso n right on his tail.
