OFF-ROAD
t's not often that off-road racers get
the chance to strut their stuff in front
of an actual crowd, but wh en th ey
finally did get that opportunity at the
inaugural Maxxis EnduroCross, they
certainlymade the best of it.
The indoo r off-road race, the first of its
kind to be held on U.S. soil, was played out
inside the 6ooo-seat Orleans Arena in Las
Vegas. and the estimated 4000 peop le that
attended see med to enjoy every second of
it. But t he one person who perhaps
en joyed it t he most was longtime
motocrosser/part-time off-road racer Ryan
Hughes, whose name will go down in the

history books as the rider to win the ve
fi rst indoor off-road race in America. T
alone would make anyone happy, but
$10,000 that he also earned for winni
made the new Team ECC Honda rid r
downright ecstatic.
Indoor off-road racing isn't exa
ne-.v.,
but it is in America. In Europe , tight tech nical racing has bee n held once every year in
Barcelona. Spain, for the last six years, and
it now plays before sellout crowds.
