twice , but if he'd have looked back, he'd have
had a great view of KTM rider Dan Morgan,
who chased Hudak to 'he second podium step.
Do n Sprague t ook third, while se ve ntysomething-year-old George Single r took fourth .
Women's-c1ass action ran at a furious pace,
led in both moros to 'he finish by Suz ukimo unted Mikki Kolacz. Regular fron t -runner
Abie Loebich took the runner-up spot, while
Chelsea Druktenis rounded out the top three.
The 12Scc C and 2SOcc C -d ass w ins both
fell to Anthony Smith, who's been on a tear of
late . Smith swapped w ins with Evan Gutshall for
the overall in 12Scc C act ion , with Pennsylvania
rider Jon Mealy filling in the th ird spot. Smith
then took on Scotty Lester and Tim Priestly for
t he 2S0cc C overall. Smith came away with
bo th mota wi ns , with Lester second and
Priestly third .

5 1st Muddobbers Enduro

hio 's Brad Sells is considered a mud specialist. but on this day he excelled on the
hard -packed terrain of central Indiana. For the
first time in many years. the SO-mile co urse was
very dry, and the rivers were low. The ground
was so hard that many of the riders felt like
t hey were ri ding on concrete . The Muddobbers
club laid out a very challenging course (or the
I 70 competitors on hand . The race was set up
in a "reset" format, totaling 10 checks .
The KTM/MSRlEnduro Engineering-backed
Sells fought off challenges all day from Six Days
veteran Je ff Fr ed e tt e . Each rider ha d to ride
flawl ess ly to gain an advantage o n t he ot he r.
The two riders' scores mirror ed eac h oth er 's
all day lo ng. At day's en d, Sells edged Fred ette
by mere seconds.
"It feels good to w in a D·15 e nduro ," Sells
com mented. "I haven't won o ne of these in a
couple years ."
The first half of the race was 32 miles of trail
t hat snaked t hrough the Ind iana co untryside .
The riders actually crossed under Interstate 69
twice in the morn ing. The trail zigzagged across
rivers and took the riders in and o ut of creek
ban ks . The ma in gas was near the covered
bridge in the town of Ma tthews. Sells and
Fredette both dropped 14 points. Right behind
the duo was Michigan champion Leona rd Keen;
the KTM-backed Keen carded a IS at th is point .
After the gas, Sells and Fredette distanced
themse lves fro m the field , d ropping five and
four po ints at checks six and eight, respectivety.
Many of the riders were feeling the effects of
the challenging trail. The attri tion rate was
rising rapidly.
The final r e se t was at 9 5 .2 miles .
Competitors sprinted the last th ree miles to the
final check, a known control. Many of the top
race rs were able to zero the last check.

who dropped 33 points. and C hono rs we nt to
Steve Laplante .
