Florida Gold Cup Series Round 4: Motocross of Marion Co unty Boni, Chisholm Trail No One BY RONNIE MONK REDDICK, FL, OCT. 10 T he 22nd rendition of Unlimited Sports ' classic Gold Cu p Ser ies, spo nso red by Engine Ice, made its annual visit to Motocross of MaJion County for ro und three of the six-round series , and the story of the day was all abou t sweeps. Despite facing the usual lineup of fierce competition, riders in 23 of the 29 classes run took overall honors by posting perfect I- I tallies - a rare occurrence in Suns hine State motocross competitio n the se days . Tea m Gree n's Kyle C hisholm and Matt Boni ru led the headlines at Redd ick by dom inating every mota in w hich they competed, w ith Chisholm getting four class wins and Ba ni coming away with th ree overalls on the day. WMR/Suzuki 's Kyle To bin, Derek Hall, and Vet hero Keith De lerich also had stellar rides , topping two classes apiece . Ch isho lm's pe rformance was particu larly impressive, a s th e Seminole res ide nt w a s undefeated in all eight of his motes. besti ng the fields in the 125cc and 2S0cc A classes, as well as the 125cc and 250cc Pros . Ch isholm had just gotten back fro m do minating the Kawasaki Race of Champions in Englishtown, New jersey, and wa s sim ply untou chable every time t he gate d ro ppe d, leaving t he formida ble WMR duo of Matt Goer ke and Shaun Skinne r to battle it out for the remain ing spot s on the podium. T hey swapped runner-up finishes in the 2SOccA class, w ith Skin ne r' s coming in th e second mota, w hich w as go od fo r seco nd overall. Goer ke exacted a bit of revenge by edging Skinne r in bo t h o ut ings in the 2S0c c Pro class. Goerke d id n't com pete in the 12Scc class e s, lea ving Skinner to claim runner-up hon o rs in bo th the 12Scc A and Pro divisio ns w ith so lid 2·2 motos. Bon i's flawle ss e ffort was nearl y eq ual to C hisho lm's, as he took six mo ta win s on his way to victory in the I2Scc and 2S0cc B classes and the 16-24 class. Dean Dyess was the best of the rest in the 250cc B class, finishing second in bo th mot es, with jackson ville' s Waylon Maloy standing o n the final spot on the box by virtue of his co nsisten t S-S postings. To bin went 3-2 for second ove rall in the I25cc B class, be hind Bani, co ming o ut o n top of a two -rnoto war with Kyle Keylon, w ho claimed th ird w ith 2- 3 68 scores. jimmy Warren used 3-2 finishes to take seco nd, beh ind Bo ni, in the 16-24 class . Tobin took his two wins in the hotty contested I25cc Open and Four-Stroke classes. The Deland resi dent sw e pt all four motos alo ng the way, besti ng the 2-2 ta lly of BSY's Ricky Re nne r and the 4-3 score of Pennsylvania's D.C. Clark in the l25cc O pe n, and the S-2 score of Dale Kump and the 3-4 postings of Oelerich in the Four-Strokes . Renner rebounded to get the w in over Tobin in th e 125cc Yout h class with 1-2 finishes, w ith Keylon finishing third with a 4-3 effort. A t the final event of the Ca l Spas Supe rmoto J-'\se rie s, the Open Amateur heat race saw Bryson Ho pfe, w ho had missed a few races this season, o ut in fron t . David Lucas ra n se con d, with Cody Cates in third . That's how the order remained for the whole race. The Open Pro heat saw Josh "C hiz" C hisum w in, followed by CRSOO pilo t Rick Pea rce in seco nd. Leo "Pucho " Bagnis, Lucas and Do nnie Howar d rounded out the top five. The Dash For Cash allows the to p qua lifiers to race fo r some easy cash . One lap, last rider gone ; next lap, last rider gon e ; and so on .
