Hurricane Ivan had caused a can cellation o f the origina l September rac e date, but it was well worth the wa it, as riders we re treated to nearly perf ect track conditions. Riders also enjoyed a fun pr e-race ride and a bluegrass concert the night befo re the race , as well as a raffle , at w hich Mini B rider Bradley Gre e r won a 50 percent-off coupon and Vet C rider Tony De La Cru z won a free clutch. Burcham/Pro Class Cycles-backed Suzuki rider David Wh ite rode a consistent race to take third. During the th ird lap, Tomlinson fe lt the heat from Husqvarn a rider Jason Balon is for second place, as Balo nis was right on his rear fender in third . In the Min i A class , Kawasaki rider and points leader Will Faddis dominated the three laps. com ing in a minute before second-placed Sha ne Hart le ss , o n a Suz uki. Yama ha ride r Patrick Kite rode con sisten tly to take third . In the Women's class, Kawasaki rider Angela So nnacchio was o ut in fron t of Suz uki rider Je nny Blake by two minutes. O n the sec ond lap. Sonna cchio had so me difficulty and Blake was able to squeeze by for the lead . DECEMBER 1, 2004 • CYCLE NEWS Daniel Black proved ta be toa much for the competition in the 125cc J unior class at Michigan's Victory Lane Sparts Park. Victory Lane Sports Park Black is the Bomb By BART NEWMAN STANTON, MI, OCT. 10 anie l Black was top do g in the. I25cc J ~n l ~r class, gra bbing tw o mo to w ins at MiChigan's own Victory Lane Sports Park and turning in two grea t rides aboard his mighty Yamaha. Com ing off th e gate , Black fo und the groove that suited his style and had a lead go ing int o tur n o ne , in fro nt of Matt Law, Nic k Wenger and Kevin Shorr. Black too k a liking to the Victo ry Lane facility and was soon clicking off solid lap after solid lap. Law wasn 't going to hand Black the w in w it ho ut a battle , and he was airing it out, kee ping Black hone st all mo ta long. A good batt le eru pted between Wenger and Shorr, as they e xchange d positions several times th ro ughou t the mot a. In the e nd, Black was too strong for the field and too k the win wi th room to spare . Law was in se cond the whole way and vowed to be tt e r that by one posit ion in mota two. Wenge r held off Shorr at the flag to finish t hird. Law got the jump off the gate in moto two . but Black he ld it on longe r going into tum one to once again call the holeshot his. Law was fast a nd de termi ned , lat ching on to Black's rear fender, but he co uldn't find a way around . Shorr was leading We nger, but that would n't last long, as Wenge r was faster coming down the hill, and that wou ld make third his. Out front, Black was on fire , slicing and dicing his way a.ro und t he course, holding off each offe nsive cha rge t hat Law wo uld mount. When the wh ite flag ca me out, Black put his head down and moto red away for his second moto w in, as well as the overall. Law finished secon d aga in for seco nd overall , Weg ner was third both times o ut for th ird overall, and Shorr placed fourth in both affairs for fourth overa ll. Scott Cu rrie was king in Vet action, holding off tough charges from Gary Saya in both mo tos to claim the Over 45 overall. Cu rrie returned from Loretta Lynn's w ith D 40th Anniversa ry a to p- 10 National number, and he has been bac king that up on Michiga n tracks all season long. Th is day was more of the same, as he rode away wi th a pa ir of vict ories in the O ver 45 class. In mota o ne, C urrie took the wi n afte r d uking it o ut with Saya and Phil Peyton . The three we re on a rail, opening up a good lead on the rest of the pack. Currie he ld tough eve n as Saya we nt afte r him lap afte r lap to w in moto o ne . Saya was second, with Peyton th ird. When the second moto got under way. Saya brought the pack around turn one , but Currie didn't take well to playing second fiddle, and he was out front be fore lap one was don e.
