Featuring fac- to ry co nti nge ncy fro m all t he big moto rcycle manu facturers, it almos t always d raws lots of racers. However, th is was a makeu p race that was not o n the schedu le, and a Satur day race at t hat . As othe r tra cks in th e area we re run ning programs at the same time , this cou ld ex plain the low rider turnout. Neve rth e less, it o nly takes two ride rs fo r a race to break out, and this day's events showed that no matte r how many riders are at the track , the racing can still be w ide open and to ugh. Did you eve r have the best ride ever, only to have another rider have o ne that's just a little bett er? That was the case fo r Socal Yamaha rider Korey Hawkins, w ho was o n the gas in the 14-24 40th Anniversary B class. moving around the track with the speed that wou ld have surely won almost any class on this day. T he bad news fo r Haw kins was that James Hays was competi ng in his class. Co ming off the win in the 250cc B class. Hays wa nte d to make it a clea n sweep fo r the day. Hays set a pace that Hawkins just could not mat ch, taking both mot o w ins and the overall. Haw kins was runner-u p in both motos and overall. O ne moment that everyone could have done w it hout cam e in the 65c c class , w he n Brian O benchain crashed hard and did not ge t up. The track para medics worked hard o n Brian, but at times he was unresponsive ! Th e lif ght crew e-fli came in and took him to t he ho spital. Please remember Brian in your prayers.
