PHO BY DREW RUIZ TOS GFI Racing Fa ll Series South Round 3 : Cahui lla Creek Motocross Park Nothing but Victory for Villopoto By GREG ROBERTSON ANZA, CA, SEPT. 26 D yan Villopoto unleashed his national -caliber I'.peed and walked away with the Four-Stroke Open, 125cc and 250cc Intermediate-<:Iass victories at Cahuilla Creek Motocross Park during rou nd three of the GFI Racing Fall Series South . In the firs t Four-Stroke Open mot a, Villopoto qu ickly made his wa y to the front of the pack on his Team GreenfThousand Oaks Kawasaki-bac ked KX2S0 F, and he st ayed th ere until the finish. Not only did Villopoto run away fro m his fello w competi tors, he ca ught and passed ali bu t one o f the 125cc Pros. w ho had gat ed before the Four-Stroke Open co n ti nge nt . Second p lace we n t t o jo s h La Fountaine, wh o ended up a safe distance ahead of Ryan Penhall and Broc k Wh iteh e ad. La Fountaine and Penhall go t the jump on Villopoto ea rly in moto two , an d La Fountaine ke pt Villopoto at bay for th e first three laps . Neve rtheless , Villopoto saw the chec ke rs firs t, w ith La Fountain e , Penh all an d Whitehead finishing second throu gh fourth , res pec t ively, again. Perkins loo ked ve ry good holdi ng the re st of th e field at bay; he was still running st ro ng when Blair cause d the red nag to com e out with six laps do w n. Th ey lined up Single-file . wi th Blair go ing to the back second , over Brett Klein, fo r the du rat io n. Villopoto had his work cut out for himself in moto two, as he completed lap one back in I Ith wh ile Charette streaked awa y with the early lead. Villopoto knifed through the pack and put a lastlap pass on Charette for the win. Curtis Malins went 5-3 for third overal l, beh ind Cha rette. Villopoto had to work his way up through the field in both 250c( Intermediate outings, but the results were the same: a pair of firsts. Josh Brown came (rom w ay back (or a hard fought thi rd in moto on e , and th en backed tha t up w ith a strong second-place finish in mota two after leading th e first half of the moto. Tyler Kalisiak's 2-4 score edged out the 4-3 efforts of Austin Eitel for th ird in the final sta ndings. Firs t-place payback in the 125cc Pro class went to Honda -mounted Mike Sleeter, via a p erfect I -I s ho w ing . Co r y McD aniel and M ichael Young each took turns leading at one point. but neither could quite match Sleete r's pace on th is day. Young was run ner-up in both motos, ahead of McDaniel, Dennis Ewing and Micky Gr iffin. Rios picked up just e one win in th e Modified class and two wins in the Sto ck class but took the title in both classes, and Miller finished t he series w ithout a single win to take th e runn er-up spot in bo th classe s. In eac h class there were le ss th an 20 po ints se parati ng the two riders. Steven Caranza also ran each of the 10 races to take th ird in both classes and finish just eigh t points shy o f se co nd place in th e Modified class.
