Abbott Earns Third AMA National H&H Crown awasaki Team Gre e n's Des try Abbott won his third AMA National Hare & Hound Champion ship after finishing second at the series final in Luce rne Valley, Ca lifornia, o n K Octo be r H . Abbo tt an d Montclair Yamaha 's Russ Pears on, the defe nding cha mpion, battl ed back and forth in the earl y stages of the 90-mile race before Pearson settled into the lead , with Abbott ho lding his own in second. Late in the race, Abbott made a push to catch Pearson and got to within abou t 10 seconds of the leade r before falling dow n - twice - and co nceding the race to the Y amaha ride r. Still, seco nd place was good enough to win the championship, while Pearson ended up second in the series. Third in the race went to Abbott's team- Walker To Kawasaki for World Superbikes mate David Pears on , wh ile fourth place went to Mike Childress. David Pears on finished out th e year th ird in points, followed by Brian Bro w n, wh o did not start the final race. N o U.S. Round for World Superbikes AMA Motocross 2005 Style A MA Pro Racing released its schedule /"'\ior the 2005 AMA Motocross Championship last week, the series con- sisting of 12 rounds - including a new round in Lakewood, Colorado. Additionally, similar to 2004 , the series begins and ends in California and provides teams and riders with an off-weekend between the end of the THQ AMA Supercross Series and the beginning of the AMA Motocross Ch ampionship. "We 're looking forward to bringing AMA Moto cross to racing fans in the Denver area," said AMA Pro Racing SX/MX Series manager Steve Whitelock. "W e're confident that the new event at Th under Valley will be a nice complement to the existing schedule. Plus, it enab les us to reach a region of the Unites States that has lacked an AMA Motocross race . The 32-yea r-o ld Brit was the first ride r to earn a pod ium finish for Foggy Petronas Racing in the first race of the 2004 season in Valencia, Spain. Walker will now return to the Kawasaki fold. "Eve ry r ider likes to have their own me chan ic with them, as I always did, so we put together an attractive package , which included the ad dition of his mechanic to ou r team," FPR team owne r Carl Fogarty said in the release. "H ow ever, circumstances beyond the co ntrol of all those involved meant that Chris was n't able to accept that package . We w er e confident that, after a seaso n of ada pt ing to ou r triple , Chris wo uld have been able to fulfill his poten tial and become a consistent front-run ner next sea- son on th e FP I. Ch ris has enjoyed most of his succes s in the past o n a four-cylinder bike and prob ably feels that he is more at home on a Kawasaki. But we are sure that the Petronas engine development team will make big strides forward during our w inter testing pro- gram and that our bike , which we know is fast enough to achieve pole positions, will be able to challenge the established manu facturers on a regu lar basis.to Walker said that this was a really hard decis ion. "I have rea lly en joyed my time with Petronas and the team, and Foggy has been a sta r," Walke r said. "But the timing is right for me to get back on a four-cylinder." Walker finished I Ith in the 2004 World Superbike Championship.
