AMA Distri ct 27 Mo toc ross Se ries Round 8: Washo ugal Motoc ro ss Park Ard, Broo ks Stream to Was hougal Wins r - -Glen Helen Raceway Presents-- -20th Annual - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - the - -- - -----~ WHITE BROTHERS WORLD VET MX ONSHIPS Saf N Nov 7 ~ By CLAY LIGHT WASHOUGAL, WA, SEPT. 12 uzuki-mo unted Joel Ard and Yamaha rider Trevor Brooks bested the Pro -class competition at round eight of the AMA Distr ict 27 Motocross Series at Washouga l Motocross Park, with Ard snaring a 125cc win and Brooks topping the 250cc class and finishing second overall to Ard in 125cc act ion. The re were also several impressive performances turned in by Inte rmedia te riders , among them O rego n's Guy Tow and Washing- S to n's Tod d Nelso n. Nelso n, riding a Suzuki, nearly pulled off an upset in the com bined 125cc Pro/B class. Bro o ks gra bbed the lead in the first mot a , but he enco untere d p ro b lems and Ard to o k command. Nelson forged his way through the pack to overtake all of the Pro riders in the 17-rider field, with the exception of Ard . Though Ard had a big lead, his Suzuki four-stro ke was running badly late in the mota, and Nelson narrowed the gap to Ard, thoug h Ard still won . Another B rider, Wes ton Potter, also ra n near the hea d of the pack, unt il a crash in the mud dy conditions thwarted his progress. Ard wasted litt le time taking co mma nd o f mo ta two, although Bre tt Boe hm, riding a borrowed Kawasaki, too k the lead from Ard o n lap three. Howeve r, Boeh m's lead was shortlived, as his four-st roke quit running. Ard reassumed the lead, which he the n maintained to the finish. Nelson again trailed Ard at t he finish. whic h wa s goo d fo r t he overall B-class win . Broo ks, the seco nd-placed Pro rider, trailed the duo, while Pro Doni Wanat and B rider David Coffey rounded out the top frv e. Brooks d idn' t falte r in t he 250cc Pr o clas s, le ad ing the major ity of bo th motes, which also ran combined wit h the B riders. Washington 's Kory Huffman and Tow each ran be hind Bro o ks and Pro Jason Matthe ws in bot h mo to s, wit h Tow ne tti ng the overall B-clas s win , trail ing Br o o ks ( I- I) an d Matthe w s ( 2- 2) b u t fini shing a hea d of H uffm an ( 1- 2) , Christopher Roger s (4-3) and Nic Wo lfer (3-4) . Kawasaki-mou nted Roo k Jewell was impress ive in his overall 65 cc (9- 1I) cla ss win. T he rid e r from Tac o ma , Washingto n, eas ily wo n both mot e s. lead ing Hunte r Kno ll (2-2) and Cooper Ga rza (4- 3) overall. In t he adjoined 65 cc (7- B) class, Alyas Wardius and Ryan Miranda split moto wins.
