By the e nd of the first lap, Greer had established a lead of more than a minute, and at the end of four laps he had stretched that lead out to more than three minutes en route to the overa ll. Norwood was the first to figure out the mistake and get back on track, taking the lead. Then Norwood turn ed it up, coming in 10 minutes ahea d of Fe rguson in second and C 86 Parke r in third. Triangle Cycle -backed Ho nda rider Tony Deal was first off the line in the 2S0cc A class. The first lap fea tur ed a battle betwe e n Deal and his broth er Robb y. By the e nd of the th ird lap, Ingram had taken control of the lead, and Bruc e 's Suspe nsion -backed Honda ride r Justin Ston e had wo rked his way fro m eight h p lace to se co nd , passi ng Robb y in a fie ld sect ion and Tony in a roc ky section . KTM rider Preston Blake was first into the woods o ff the Four-Stro ke A-class start, but when his pace slowed, Yamaha rider Andrew W illiam s took t he le ad , wit h Fly/ Le w is Motors ports KTM rider Brando n Ne ro six seco nds beh ind his rea r fe nde r. As the two riders approached an up hill, Ne ro fo und th e faster, smoo the r line and passed Williams. Not too long after that , Williams stalled his bike and Woods Mid-Atlantic-sponsored Y amaha ride r Ch ad Woods go t by him . Now in sec o nd, Wood s began to chase Nero . Woods took an inside line on a rooty turn and grabbed the lead. Then Williams caught up to Ne ro and passed him o n a fire roa d.
