After Hurricane Frances dumped quite of bit of rain, peop le started to worry that the course might be a mud bog, but the Alabama hills drained nicely and the trails were race-perfect. After sewing up his 2004 SERAoverall championship at the last SERA en duro, Louisiana native and Gas Gas factory rider Stephen Reed decided to finish out the season still on top. That prove d to be anything but an easy feat, wit h ride rs such as Glenn Myatt and Taylor Reynolds wanting a shot at the title. Reed took the first section, zeroing it to the secon d. The next test was 7.5 miles, and only rive riders dro pped twos , making it anyone' s race at th e first gas. After the second gas , the M, A and B classes we re tr eated to a 24-mp h, 17-mile sect ion of challenging, rock-in feste d trails. This was where conditioning and stamina were really needed. This is also where Reed edged out th e competitio n with an impressive seven, making his day wit h a total score of 10 points . EEP EC EATIO Aj/ l./.1J ' ilh the California D esert whole day.
