Came ro n Tribbey held down third for much of the moto befo re Austin Barks came on st ro ng in the closing laps to drop him to fourth. Moto two duplicated the first, with Jennings gr abbing the ho leshot and Lyo ns immediately challenging. T his time, Lyo n only had to wait until the midway point to make the pass for a clean sweep of th e field o n his 66 1/Saugus Suzu kibacked RMBS. II , V icking orr the first event of the District 36 I ' fall series, the Yout h races were held on the first day of a two-day event at Honey Lake, California , locat ed between Susanville, California, and Reno, Neva da . Light w inds and clear skies made for good race cond itions. One hundred yo ut h riders show ed up for the AMA-s a nctioned race . En tries we r e so mewhat do wn fro m the average of 180 per event, possibly due t o thi s being the first D ist rict 36 ra ce in five months - or to t he 74 average five - or six-hou r drive for most racers. It w as impressive that all the Youth races sta rt e d o n time and that, d uring this typ ically dry time of year, the track was we ll-watered . so dust was not a big issue. The promoters did a gre at job. Althoug h attendance was down , all the top Youth c o nt e nd e rs were present, includ ing defending champ Ryan Toomey - a local w ho had not raced in the Youth series yet this year since moving to the adu lt class. Another local, Jos h Morros, who is the cu rrent WORCCS Youth points leader, also made a sho wing . Rounding o ut the top three going into the first corner were motocrosser Coulton Haaker and num be r-tw o -ranked Jo nat han Davis. Hitti ng a rocky section three-quarters of the w ay though the first of 13 laps , leader God man crashed. "My sw ingarm hit a roc k and I we nt down ," Godman said. '1\bo ut five riders passed me ." God man's crash made wa y for points leader Garrison Gragg and Davis, w ho both ride for Mach- I Motorsports, to move to the front and pu ll awa y from the ranks . Third be longed to Toomey fo r part of the first lap, but he later went o ut with a nat tire . Th e n Haaker held it briefly, and then 12-yearold joey Pascarella he ld it for most of the race. DH- I's Morros came on strong near the finish to take over t hird . In the end, it was Gragg, Davis and Morros taking the podium position s. The Pee Wee riders ro de the first race of the day. When t he A 50cc riders headed into the first corner, it was Bruno Moreda in t he lea d , followed closely by Tucker Larrieu and Du stin Creson. After so me shuffling, the final result was Larrleu ; Brett Sage and More da. LocJj Cycle Bowl checkered flag, with Diaz right behind. fo llo wed by jorge Cabre ra, Jake Strong , Jo nathan Kearns and Michael Ramirez . Nick Fereria too k the holesho t in the Over 40 B/C race and the Over 40 C win. "It was a good race ," Fere ria said. "The track was gre at. It w as tough . Thanks to Kevin Bricker Dirt Track School ; he's helped me a lot ." In the Over 40 Exper t cl ass , Rober t McDonnell took the holeshot and led for a few laps , but Ro be rt Curry was right there at t he right time and mad e his move on McDon nell, taking the lead and then the tr o phy. "Pretty good race, from the start," Curry said. "McDo nne lland Bacosa finished behind me ." Knight Moves By JONI HALSEY LODI, CA, SEPT. II ft e r a wee k off, racing returned to the Lod i Cycl e Bowl as District 36 Top O ilsponsored dirt track racing got back into act ion wit h a spe cial program ded icated to L.D. Stewart Barbe r Jr ., who is currently in second place in the black-plate points , got the holeshot and kep t the lead in the Open A class. Mark Corsetti tried to make the pass on Barber but se tt led for sec o nd. Tony So uza took third . "On the restart, I did good," Barber said. "I stuck to the inside. Mark Corsetti w as working me hard. I didn't mo ve or make a mistake, and that 's w hat wo n me the race ." Steve Bo nse y was o n fir e, ta king t he ho leshot in the Pro-Am. Although Christop her Bo rjas got a gr e at start o rr the line. Steven Scott and Danny Knight we re right behind in the combined Open BIC conte st. B riders Toby Tra na and Jo nathan Curry held strong for t he first few laps. Knight moved up from third to take second, in front of Scott. and then made his move on Borjas. Knight rode hard the final three laps and took the chec ke red flag for the victory. "I had a bad start, got into second place , Knight said. " I came around Borjas and took first. It was a battle." Fo llow ing behind w ere C riders John Martin, Pat Kellyand Robert Bacosa. " I had a pretty good start off the line ," Martin said. "It felt good. I ran a good race with the B riders." In the SOcc C class, Robbie Nichols too k the holeshot. Scott Hampton Jr. soon took the lead from Nichols and kept it all the w ay. Nichols placed second. Tivaido Gari bay, jo hn Rubiolo and Zach Halsey were close behind . B rider Danielle Diaz got a gre at start in the combined IOOcc NB/C Youth Stock contest and le d t he first two laps. Expert rider Michae l Martin, who is curre ntly seco nd in black-plate points, was hot on her tail, making it difficult for her to hold on to he r lead .
