The first Black Coal Nationa ls were actu ally National Enduros, sta rting in 1971, and we re held in coal pits own ed by th e infamous Peabod y Coal Co mpany. A surprise entry at the Black Co al National Floridian Justin Williamson had a decent finish considering the circumstances of his race . "The start was not as good as I thought it was going to be because I got there late and had to start on the outside," Williamson said. "But I ended up getting in front of three or four people going into the woods. I was behind Andy Shae, and it was so dusty I couldn't see anything. I hit a giant stump in one corner and ended up wiping out , and I lost those three or four positions . So, I just tr ied to regain the positions , but it was tough with all the dust. "I got Williamson in the woods and moved up to seventh. then I just followed along be hind [Scott] Summers until he had problems. That bumped me up to sixth and I just stayed there. The bike features an engine that is en tirely des igned by Shereo : a four-stro ke single cylinder with an aluminum block. It has an overihead cams haft, four valves and is liquid-cooled, with a total displaceme nt of 44 B.6cc. An elec tronic fuel inject io n system takes care of the intake. It has a gear- drive n primary dr ive, a six-speed gearbox, and the clutch is hydraulically controlled. The exhaust pipe is made of stainless steel , and it is equ ipped w ith an aluminum muffler.
