In the first outing, Heacox be at the sa le Pro , Shawn Parks, off th e line, but he had led for less than a whole lap befor e Parks' Suzuki two -stroke powe re d by. Heacox and his Honda were up to the task of beating th e other 2s0cc Inte rmediate, Hondamounted Michael Ca rnes. The second run ning of this class saw Parks make the fast getaway, but again Heacox trailed the Pro for th e e ntire distance. The e nd result for the more-than-38-year -old Heacox was four races a nd fo ur wi ns - w it h no t ime for indigestion. No Hiccups for Heacox By MIKE VANCIL UVERMORE, CA, AUG. 28 I ne fina l rou nd o f t he Sup e rSa tu r day I Motocross Series hosted by Moto West Racing at Club Moto was a huge success. Racer and cro wd turnout was large r than ever, and the racing was very close in many contests and safe for all, save a bruise or scrape for just a few riders . Pleasanton's Ed Heacox, on his CRf Honda, had a flawless evening in the two classes he contested. Both Bay Area and Sierra Chapte r members of th e Over The Hill Gang turned out in good numbers to ride this last event of the se ries, and many appea re d to be on brand-new moto rcycles. All classes in the series we re spo nsored by Dublin Toyota, I-t-tote and Wiseco Pistons. In his first mota as a part icipant in the OT HG O ver 38 Expe rt class, Heacox was beaten off th e line by fellow Expe rt Michael Re nne r, also Honda-mounted, but before the mot o was very old, he had found a way around Renner, as did Yamaha pilot Gary Plaat]e. The moto ended with the checke rs first spotted by Heacox, followed by Plaatje and then Renner. This was a five-rider class. wh ich started in the first of tw o waves . Included in the first was the sole OT HG Over 45 Expert rider, Colin Maldonado . The second wave consisted of three OTH G classes: Over 3D Intermediate , Over 38 Intermediate and Over 45 Intermediate. In his ne xt appearance in this class, Heaco x was again beate n off the start , t his t ime by Plaatje. However, the outcome was the same as in the fir st outing for t his class , w ith t he except ion that Yamaha rider Paul Armada was the third man home this time. That last litt le bit of extra effort gave Armada third place overall, ahead of Renner and Dave Pile. Heacox's search for another class in which to measure his talents re sulted in his entry into the 2s D Intermediate class, for ride rs of any cc age w ith o r wi t ho ut any club affiliat io n. His e fforts here were also we ll rewarded . Four clas se s of racers blaste d off the start line at t he gat e dr o p, including the 12Scc Schoolboy regional eve nts this year. Be ing the onl y O ve r 60 en t ran t , Bro w n already wo n that class and was combined with the 600cc and 250cc Sports man classes. Brown gra bbed the lead fro m 250 cc r ider Da ryl Wagner, 600cc rider Dale Miller and 250cc rider Billy Gale. With a clear tr ack ahead, Brown's big Triumph pulled out to a half-lap margin. Miller took second overall as they start ed the final lap. In th e O ve r SO co nt est , Brown had so me comp e tition . Heat winne r Mike Keane took the le ad fro m Bro wn , Joe Reyn o lds an d Donnie Hughes. Brown stayed close and too k the lead down th e ba ck st ra ight on t he fou rth lap . Ke a ne wa s on Br o w n's re a r t ire for th e duration of the race . Bill Reynolds took the 750cc Sportsman lead fro m Br o w n , Ge o rge Ric ht me ye r a nd Ed Romecki. Richt meye r used his in-high/o ut-Iow line to slip into second on the seco nd lap, but he touched Brown, causing both to hes itate a P/W SO BEG : I. Colby Lankford (Ha n): 2. K yle Co e (Ha n): l .
