GFI Racing Fall Series South Round I: Lake Elsinore Motocross Park PHOTOS BY GREG ROBERT SON Ewing Opens With a Win By GREG ROBERTSON LAKE ELSINORE, CA, AUG. 28 scondida Cycle Cen te r's De nnis Ewing split mo ta w ins wit h rookie Pro Andrew Guzman t o ca ptu re th e 125cc Pro-class wi n at Lake Elsinore Motocross Park during the opening roun d of the GFI Raci ng Fall Series South. Guzman and Ewing we nt at it right off the bat in the ope ning mete. with Guzman holding a slight advantage on lap one. Kevin Frisbie, who w as ma king his G FI Racing Pro debu t , controlled third, ahead of Tyson Burme iste r, Brad Alarid and Micky Griffin . Guzman slowly inche d away from Ew ing to th e tune of five secon ds by the midway point. EWing put on a charge late in the race but couldn't quite reel in Guzman . Frisbie finished a respecta ble t hird, over Burmeister and Griffin. The se co nd-mo t o holeshot we nt to Pat McMillian , w ho wa s quickly po unced o n by Burme ister an d G uz m a n . Then , Guz man e sta blishe d a modest lead as Burmei ster, Frisbie and Ewing argued over second place . Ewing too k con trol of the second spot after a couple of laps on the hard-packed course and th e n set ou t after Guzman. Ew ing dosed to Guzman's back fe nder and slipped past t he Kawasaki ride r on the penu ltimate lap to sew up the first -place payback o n his 2 -1 performa nce . Frisb ie held off Burm e iste r to claim the third-place mo ney. with Griffin (5-S) rounding out the top five . Brian Be be ck ab scon ded w it h t he 125cc E Novice first-mo to holeshot and ran out fro nt for a couple of laps before Blake Harber dived unde rne at h him in a corner to dr op him to second . At the checkers, it was Harber by five se co nds o ve r Bebeck, wit h Casey Hunt ley co ming fro m the back of the pack for a har dfought third. Mota two was all Bebeck 's. as he tumed his secon d ho leshot of the day into a convincing victory. Harber gated just inside the top 10 and closed to the back wheel of third -place finisher Hu n t le y to earn t he second- place trophy. Bubba McQuinn finishe d second in the mo to, but a 15th-place showing in mote one he ld him to seven th overall. Trent Pugmire go t around a fast -start ing Anth ony Cicalese to absolutely dom inate 80ce Op en/Expe rt first-mote act ion. Mota two was a dup licate of the first, as Pugmire checke d out on his Ho nda for a seeminglyeasy win. Everett Holcom b and Cicalese went at it ove r second place in both motes, with Holcomb pre vailing both times. Pugmire returned to pick up the Supermini o pen ing-mota win after battlin g w ith Tye Hames for much of th e race. Travis Baker put a move o n Ham es with just a co uple of turns remain ing to finish in second place. Pugmire was quickest ou t of the gate in mota two, but Hames stu ffed his way into the le ad an lap t w o . Ham e s proved to be untouchable, gett ing to the checkers first, but Pugmire 's 1-2 rides ea rned him his sec ond overall win of the day. Baker we nt 2-4 for third. over Tyler Sjoberg (4-3) and Cicalese (7-S). eN LAKE ELSINORE MOTOCROSS PARK LAKE ELSINORE, CAUFORNIA RESULTS: AUGUST 28, 2004 (ROUND 1) Brion Bebeck (245) turned this second-mota ho leshot into a runaway win of the 12 5cc Novice class. o ld is no stranger to the SERA circuit, and he plans to join the Hatt iesburg Cycles Team next year and r ac e t he e nt ire SERA circui t of end uros and hare scrambles. Finishing almost a po int down from Monroe was SERI>:s Nolan Knight. who has given Reed some major co mpetition this year. Knight tied w it h Open A racer Steve Nicholas but managed to hold him off in the tie breake r, leaving the KTM ride r in fourt h for the day. Fifth overall was taken by SERA AA racer Carsten Cagle. while sixth wen t to TSCEC AA racer Co ie Kirkpatrick . Seventh through 10th we re SERA racers Gle n Myatt. Taylor Reynolds. Frank Davis and Chad Earl, respectively. The racer who le d the B classes was Dustin Stevens. w ho carded in at 37:1308. followed ciosely by Lee Eve re tt . who had a 37: i 326. The C classe s w e re dominate d by KTM jockey Richard Kirkpatrick , while the A Super Seniorclass overall win we nt to Gary Goff.
