The idea was to introduce the contestants to the nitty gritty of navigational skills
one would need in the Dakar Rally (reading, as well as creating, road book s and
understanding use of a GPS). They would
then practice those skills in short drills
around Primm before setting off on a
short SO-mile jaunt (again using road
books and GPS coordinates) to Dumont
