Batey Feels Right at Home

TALlADEGA, Al, AUG. 22
right. sunny skies and temperatures in the
mid -80s presented a perfect day for the
seventh round 01 the WERA National Chal lenge Series. The two Vesrah Suzuki teammates, Mark Junge and Tray Batey, blasted off
the line and battled lor the lead in the Open
Superstock tinal. Bate y had t he advantage,
while Logan Young charged to lourth, behind
Brian Stokes. Rueben Frankenfield and Jo hn
Jacobi were next . Four laps in, Stokes slipped
by Junge and went alter Batey. At hallway, both
Young and Frankenfield move d by a fading
Junge. As Stokes shadowed Batey, Frankenfield

slid out in the turn-four U-turn. Young went on
to finish third, behind Batey and Stokes.

600cc Supe rstock Novice race , leaving Ch ris
Parrish, Wes Thom pson and Thomas Moore
ba ttlin g for second . Br and o n won , and
Thom pson took second. over Chris.
Ryan Gordon took his Suzuki 750 to victory
in the 7S0cc Superstock final, over Brandon's
Vamaha 600.
Brandon came back to w in the 600(c
Superb ike Novice contest, over Heath Wilson.
Matt Futek ran to the Expert victory.
In the combined 750cc Superbike race,
Gordon ran (rom the second wave to second
place overall and the Novice victory. C ra ig
Montgomery took his 636 cc Kawasaki to the
Expert win.

charged to the lead in the 600cc Superstock
Expert final. Young took second, over Junge .
Attack Kawasaki's Josh Hayes charged th rough
the field up to sixth by the end 01 the first lap,
and fourth by the second lap. During the filth
lap, Hayes passed Champion lor the lead. With
the white nag flyi ng, Champion bobbled out 01
t urn eight, and Young and Junge blasted by.
Hayes claimed victory, with Young second.
"T ho se guys [the Nat ional Pros] are
awesome," Young stated. "It' s like going back
to school. They atways have a litt le extra."
In the Heavyweight Twins Supers tack
Expert class, Roger Bell, on the 6SDcc SV, kept
the 1000 SV-mounted Batey honest. Ross Ryals
took the Novice win.
In the lightweight Twins Expert race, Bo
Morgan took the Superbike win. Kris Wall and
Lee Fields battled lor second in the Superstock
class, behind Montgomery. Van Salt and Ryals
swapped spots throughout the Novice portion,
but Salt took the win.
Although Stokes turned the fastest lap, a
SB:789, in the 7SD Supers tock Expe rt race,

he still could n't get by Batey, who led Irom the
start. For 12 lap s, he was right there but just
co uld n't ge t th e jo b do ne . Beh ind t his duo
were Jo hn Ja cobi , Fra nken lield, Junge an d
Young , all going lo r third, but a t the Ilag,
Franke nfield got the nod .
T he Batey-Stokes batt le c o ntin ued in
Formula One, and again Batey took the win .
" Brian is running rea lly good , and he is
do ing well with Formula USA," Batey said
alterward, "but I've got the points. so I get the
front-row start. Addit ionally, th is is the first
track I ever raced at, and I took my first school
at this track , so I am at home right here." eN
