So when one starts talki ng about the cou rse wit h the reg ulars and they mention jumps wit h name s such as "Suicide" and "Ho micide," one hopes th ose names were no t co ined for o bvio us reason s - like the park's name. "Suicide" has a lo ng history of stick ing in the bac k o f peo ple ' s m in d s . Eve r y yea r a fte r Superc ros s, a few big- name st ars crui se ou t with th eir race bikes to see the sickest jump in town. It is o nly a 3D-foo t table top, but with a 10 -s to ry dro p in t o br e a king b u m ps on the o t her s ide , a r ider ma y feel like he ne eds a parachute . Upo n land ing, if he manages to slow down fo r t he be r m , it's a fo urth -gear, eightstory clim b to a two-story ste p-u p with a lip on to p that marks th e finish-line landing. Racers fro m as far away as Ontario w ere o n hand to tak e part in th e inte nse race action. Th e first fe at ure race o f the day was the Te k n ic Pr o /Am 2S0cc event , an d as the grand stan d s fille d w ith spec ta tors , some of Canada ' s fas t e st on two whee ls line d t he starting grid. As the Action Cycle Girls dropped t he flag , it was a d rag race int o corner o ne betwee n t he series po in t s lea der, Mach ine Racing Honda's Dave Arno ld, and second place in th e points , Do ug Beanie , with the re st of th e field fo llowing closely behind. Arnold was ab le to hold on to the hole sho t, and by halfway into the first lap, he and Beattie had start ed pulling awa y. Yamaha -mou nted Lino Ze cca continued his str o ng show ing fro m rou nd tw o an d he ld thir d , ahead o f fello w class roo kie Wes Cyr. By halfwa y, th e lead pack o f Arnold , Beatt ie an d Zecca had pu lled away fro m the rest an d into t he ir own r ace . Beattie th en held off late charges by Arno ld to take the win , with Arnold in second and Cyr in third. W ith th e sun beaming down o n the track, final preparat ions were made for the day 's big show, the Pre mie r Ope n final. After his stro ng showing in the Teknic 2S0cc final, many in the paddock wondered if Beatt ie w ould be ab le to maintain his consi stent riding and take his first dual win of 2004 . Off the line, Arnold got a great jump and used it to take the holeshot, w ith Beatt ie and fellow Inglis Cycle Cen te r Honda rider Jim Dicke nson following closely behind. Th e first half of the race was a carbon co py of the Teknic 250cc final, as Arno ld (in first) and Beatt ie (in sec ond) pulled away from t he rest of the 14-rider field .
