The former Honda Canada factory rider, who won the final race of the 2002 season but strugg led through a d ifficu lt 2003 campaign , put his Lacombe Racing/Brooklin Cycle Yamaha YZFRI on the pole and overcame challenges fro m Pascal Picotte and Steve Crevier to claim his second car eer National Supe rbike win. Jo rdan Szoke finished second on the Ho nda Canada/ Fas t Company Honda CBRIOOORR, some four seconds beh ind Lacombe and just ahead of the DXS Diablo Racing Suzuki GSXRI000 of Jeff Williams. Hopefully, we'll get it right fo r the next two ro unds and get second in the championship ." Picotte, the runaway Parts Canada Superbi ke Championship po ints lea de r, led initially befo re being passed by Lacombe o n lap two of 22. Picotte reached down and shifted the bike from fourth to third gear by hand , and he rode in third the rest of t he w ay. The Granby. Picotte now has 287 po ints , 71 mo re than Lacombe, who leapfrogged from fifth to second w ith 216. Crevie r pitted o n lap 16, leaving Lacombe to run the rema ining laps unchallenged for the win . "He passed me , and I followed him around for a few laps ," Lacombe explained . "I was try ing to pass him everywhere, and I almost highsided . I was just wo rking too much , so I settled in there , and then he had a problem with his bike." Crevier sl id to fifth in the Superb ike stand ings wit h 168 po ints , one behind Clint McBa in , who had to p it his Coors light Racing/Blackfoot Suzuki GSX-R I000 wh e n a bolt broke in the steering damper. Picotte won his fo urt h Hindle Exhaust Pro 600cc Sportbike feature of the season on his Yam ah a YZ F- R6 w it h a fantastic pass o f Crevier's Suzuki GSX-R600 in the run to th e chec kered flag . McBa in placed th ird on his Suzu ki. Picotte now has a 68-polnt lead over Crevier, 296 ·228, with two races remaining. McBain sits third with 212 po ints . The opening laps of this round's Superbike final looked like those of every other round this season: with Poscal Picotte (1) out front. Lacombe (34) took the w in after Picotte and Steve Crevier (14) both developed problems with the ir mo torcycles. 1" .'
