Johnny Murphree celebrated his
first win of 2004 with a burn-out
at State Fair Speedway in Sedalia,
Missouri. Murphree came out on
top of a six-lap dash after the
main event was restarted.
nce again, the AMA Progressive Insurance U.S. Flat Track
Championship was plagued by Mother Nature, this time in the
form of heavy rain that swept through the Sedalia, Missouri,
area, causing the promoters and AMA Pro Racing officials to
push round 12 back from its originally scheduled Saturday
night race to Sunday afternoon.
Sedalia's State Fair Speedway half mile is notorious for its narrow groove
during day races , but although it required a lot of work, the track did develop
a wide groove during Sunday's race , and it was well worth the wait for Johnny
Murphree.
Coming off consecutive years of finishing second to Chris Carr in
the AMA Progressive Insurance Flat Track Championship, Murphree
certainly didn't think it would take until the end of August to record his
first w in of 2004 , but that is just what happened . With a win at Sedalia,
the monkey is now off the back of the Coziahr HarleyDavidson/National Cycle-sponsored Californian.
"It's a little too late to do anything about the championship points. but it's a
good confidence builder going into the winter and building for next year,"
