"The first race was a disaster," Tow nley said. " It was my own fault.. . I wanted to come
back, and lour po ints would have given me the championship today, bUI I was so lar
behind. I tried bUI then crashed again - I'm gutted . In the second race, lt look me a while 10
find my rhythm, bUI I close d down Marc [De Reuver] bit by bit. I had been building up 10
taking the title this weeke nd, and I was excited rather than nervous . I don't think the crash
has anything to do wha t was on th e line ."

Stephan Sword was set to compete this weekend but was forced to sit ou t the race after
a crash in qualifiers. "Up until the crash, I was leeling pretty good," Sword said. "My lap
limes were up and things seemed okay. I gOI a bil tight in the qualilying race and dropped
it on one of the corners. I then made a mistake in picking the wrong rut. I caught my foot .
which dragged me 0 11 and I sort 01 did a 'Superman' and then had 10 let the bike go. II
wasn't very nice. I was pleased that I could gel up, bUI I didn't really know what was going
on lor a while because I banged my head pretty bad . I went 10 hospital and they were
really good and checked everything oUI lor signs 01 internal bleeding. I had an MRI scan
and then an X -rayon my neck. because the helmet was smashed up . It is just a case of
rest ing now. This was a disappointment. because I wanted to try for second in the Cham-
pionship , bUI now il is a case 01 de lending third. When I seem
