When Hodgson got back to the garage, he asked him team to lodge an official complaint. Both Hodgson and Biaggi e nded up meeting with Race Director Paul Butler. Biaggi apologized, saying he'd missed a shift which had put him wide, and he decided to pit. Hodgson accepted his apology but wanted him to understand that you can't go make sudden moves like that because people are going to get hurt . "Everybody kept coming up to me afterwards saying he's done the same thing to them loads of times . Sete said he's done it a couple of times with some really sillymoves . There's just no need for it, particu larly at this level. We are all pretty experienced and it's not like he's going to out-psyche me ." In the wake of Colin Edwards finishing in front of Telefonica MoviStar Honda team mate Sete Gibernau in the British Gp, and denying him four championship points, the question was asked if any of the riders had been given team orders. ':A.ny Japanese never said this to me," Repsol Honda 's Alex Barros said, adding that neither had any member of his team. Barros, who isn't in the championship hunt but might find himself in the position of being able to help one of the other Honda contenders, Gibernau or Max Biaggi, said it wou ld be difficult because he, Gibernau and Biaggi all have different spo nsors . "I compare, for example , Sete and me have Telefonica, Repsof. These two sponsors want to win the race . I think it's not so easy like you think. It should be a little bit confusion. Maybe in the same team, maybe it's possible this to happen , same team , same sponsor. But different, I think is more difficult." New Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) managing director Satoru Horiike said; "HRC w ill never give team orders. We never did and we never will. The re are two reasons for it. O ne is that giving team orders is not good for the fans. The racing fans wants to see the true racing. And number two is that it' s not fair to the riders. If you give team orders. it reduces the mot ivation of the riders ." Horiike said team orders wo uldn't be given eve n if the Cham pionship was in the balance on the final lap of the final race. British Superbike rider Jam e s Ellison made his Grand Prix debut on the World Championship Motorsports machine, taking the place of the injured Chris Burns. Two laps from the end , he crashed in oil of the last corner, The same oil took down Marlboro Ducati's Troy Bayliss. Ellison'sspot will be taken by the Moriwaki team at the Gauloises Pacific Grand Prix at Motegi in four weeks time, with Andrew Pitt riding the Moriwaki WCM. Brian Parriott rode his Auto Sports Busquets BMW to second place in the BMW BoxerCup race, held at the end of the day. The Californian was part of a five-rider battle we ll back of the eventual winner, Roberto Panichi, and took the spot by .036 of a second. It was a better way to finish the race in Brno than he had last year, when he was disqualified from the win. Nate Kern rode his Cherry Hill BMW Motorrad to 15th, scoring a Championship point. Details of the collaboration between the Czech pocket-bike company Blata a nd World Championship Motorsports emerged at the company's home Grand Prix. The pair will partner for an assault on the 2005 MotoGP World Championship using an all new 990cc DOHC four-valve, Iiquidcooled , across -the -frame V-six engine. Early estimates put the power in excess of 220 hp. Details such as V-angle, bore and stroke, and valve size remain confidential. The engine will use a six speed cassette-type gearbox with straight-cut gears fed through a dry, multi-plate slipper clutch. With a new 22liter limit on fuel tanks for 2005, the Blata starts with a weight penalty, but engineers are confident they can overcome it. Departing from the trad itional box section frame, the Blata V-six w ill have a tubular steel frame with adjustable steering geometry, whee l base , ride he ight and swing arm . Ohlins suspension will be used front and rear. CYCLE NEWS . SEPTEMBER 1,2004 19
