Ark Gold Cup Se ries Round 2: Motorcycle Race way Garner - Alias the Winner By CONNIE JOHNSON OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, JULY 10 A t rou nd two of the Gold Cup Series, held Mat Motorcycle Raceway, Brian Garner rode his Yamaha to the front of the pack when the gate dropped for moto one, and he le d the race until the chec kers came out for the Over 25 class. Another Yamaha pilot, Dana Fisher, tried to put the pressu re on Garner but couldn't get close enough . Fisher crossed the finish line in se co nd , with Kawas aki jockey Lance Fenton following in third. Garner had a repeat performance in moto two, as did Fishe r. Fenton, howe ver, dropped to fourth , while Kerry Hooley took over third on his Kawasaki. Garner, who rides for Baker Boys Yamaha, not only too k the overall win in the Over 25 class, he also wen t home w ith a first in the 2S0cc Intermed iate class and a third in the 125cc Intenn ediate class. Yamaha pilot Nathan Cox and Kawasaki pilot And rew jac kso n we nt aro und th e first t urn together in mota one of the 125cc Intermediate class. Jackson pulled out in front and held the lead until his bike stalled in the big sweeper in the middle of lap thre e, allowing Cox to take over the front position. Garren Teasley put his Suzuki in the second-place spot , followed by Garner. Moto two was all Cox, as he led the race fro m w ir e to w ire, w ith Teasley and Garner in tow. In the 125cc Novice class, Craig Thomas got out in front o n his Yamaha and neve r loo ked back in moto one . Corey Cous ins, yet another Yamaha rider, fo llowed in second, with C hris Blewett in third on her Suzuki. Thomas didn't make it to moto tw o, as he was injured in a pr evious race . That left Cousins to ge t the holeshot and the win, while Blewett moved into seco nd and Nick Simon rod e his Yamaha to a third-place finish. Chandler Goodman and Tanner Snell beat the rest of the Pee Wee Oil-Injected class to the first turn in moto one . Snell quickly took over th e lead, and his fello w KTM r ider Marcus McCawley quickly took over the second spot. Snell hung on to the lead until the white-flag lap, when McCawley made his move and too k the w in. Sne ll followed in a clo se sec ond , w ith Good man's Polini crossing the checkers in third. McCawley nailed the holeshot in moto two , with Goodman on his back fend er. After the ch ec kers came out and t he dust settled , McC awle y had th e wi n, with Goodman in second and KTM pilot Landon For man in third. mer, but Kritzer was in a teach ing mood , as he proceeded to push himself to the higher speeds Phe e (Ho n); 2. The mo st populous moto comprised the Over 30 Novice, Ove r 38 Novice and Ove r 45 Novice classes , with the younger riders having the first wave off the start gate . In both motos, Chris Roeh ik po wered his KT M to ho leshots and never looked back. Finishing in his immediate wake in t he fir st me te wa s Yamaha r id e r Robert Callahan, and in the second moto it was Hondamou nted Mike O 'Brien . Unfor t unate ly for O'Brien , his flrst -moto finish o f fourt h prevented him from unseating Callahan fo r Brian Garner took the win in the seco nd overa ll.
