ean-Sebastien Roy is well down the road to another Canadian National MX title, as he, like Ricky Carmichael to the south, is working on a perfect season. That was, however, until the just-concluded round in Moncton, New Brunswick, where Roy saw his bid for a perfect season rapidly deflate. While comfortably leading the first rnoto, Roy ran over something on the track that made both t ires go flat, resulting in a 20th-place finish in the rnoto. Still, with just two rounds left to go in the eightrace series, Roy is a shoe-in for the 2004 Canadian National MX title . What follows is a brief roundup of the Canadian Series thus far. ROUND 6 RIVERGlADE MX TRACK MONCTON, NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA AUGUST 2, 2004 As mentioned, Roy's run for a perfect season went flat in the first moto at the New Brunswick round. Roy was leading at the time and was forced to make a visit to the mechanics' area for a double wheel change. The unplanned stop cost him a lap and, with rain now com ing down, Roy mounted a charge in the remaining laps and was able to finish out the race in 20th place to salvage at least one point. " It' s been a great season for me so far. but today some bad luck caught up to me ," Roy said. Roy's teammate Dusty Klatt. who had earlier in the month wrapped up the 125cc West Regional title , ended up winning the moto, his first in the 250cc class. American Damon Huffman made it a Blackfoot onetwo-three sweep with a third-place finish. Roy came back with a vengeance in the second moto, busting out a solid holeshot and riding off with an uncontested win . The defending champ was in a class all his own as he pulled out a big 20-second lead over Huffman. who crossed the finish line in second place after a race-long duel with Kawasaki rider Evan Laughridge. Huffman's 3-2 moto results were good enough to give him the overall victory his first overall win of the series. Following a first-moto win , Klatt saw his chance for the overall victory slip away after getting off to a bad start and then sailing off the track while running eighth . The mishap dropped Klatt way back, but he clawed and scratched his way to the front again, getting all the way up to fifth. A fourth place would have given Klatt the overall, but he couldn't quite catch American Keith Johnson, who ended up finishing in that position. Klatt still went home with the second-place trophy.
