Michael Radley picked up the prestigiaus Cycle News Fast Brain Award, and he alsa wan the 125« Mod Grand Championship. and Brad Baker, in 85cc Modified (7-1 I). The short-track portion was more consisten t, with Kentucky ride rs cleaning house in the youth divisions (youth riders, who weren't scheduled to participate in the final mile competition, did two short-track races in each of their classes) . Ethan Gillim gra bbed bot h short-track wins in 50cc Senior (7-8) Stock racing and traded wins with brother Hayden in the 65cc DTX (7-1 I) and 65cc Modified (7- 11) classes. Tiny Nick McFadden - also from Owe nsboro - collected victories in the Pee-Wee Shaft Stock and 50cc Pee-Wee (4-8) classes. Among the bigger folk, who only did one short-track race, Lewis, King and Snyder each posted a pair of victories. It wasn't much of a surprise when King managed a pair of wins during the full size portion of the TT competition on Thursday - his victories came in 400cc and 505cc Modified - but many people were asking where Mark Kirkman was from after he came out on top of 450cc Modified and Vet 30-Plus Singles competition. (The answer was Austraiia; see sidebar.) James Beach was the only doubleclass victor in Friday's youth TT racing. In the week-long Pro Sport battle, Washington rider Sam Halbert used consistency to take the overall champi onship, notching podium finishes in every competition. Last year 's Horizon winner, Ricky Marshall, made a return to t he Grand Nationals and scored more wins than anyone else, but he finished poorly in the races he didn't win. He topped the first half-mile but then took ninth in the second one, which was won by fast female Nichole Cheza. The two shorttrack contests went to Marshall and Halbert , and then Halbert added a TT victory. Marshall won the week's final event , on the half-mile, with Cheza the eN runner-up.
