nine- lap spr int . Bostrom to ok over again when the race was restarted o n lap nine , and he pulled clear of Duhamel again to take the win by 1.106 seconds . "Fort unately, we didn't interfere wit h the cham pionship," Bostrom said. " It was nice of the m [Duhamel and Zemke] to let me win . I have been watching the Tour de France, and every once in a while they t hrow a guy a bone and let him win because he's not in the championship . These guys did that for me today." Du hamel's second-place finish allowed him to gain a little more breathing room on Zemke. Duham el now leads Zemke 282 -265, with three rounds remaining in the series. "The screws [on the shifter] got stripped , and the shifter was falling off," Duhamel said of his tro ubles befo re the red nag. " Ben got by me, and he knows I'm not supposed to be do ing J I s, but there was nothing I could do . Then the red nag came out , and I was rea lly happy... I had chosen a rear tire that worked great on Jake 's bike , but not on my bike... But we came in, and it worked out good fo r bot h Jake and me. I had t rou ble getting my now going, and Ben ro de a great race. I was like, 'Ben, darn it , why are you going so fast to day!?' I'm still happy that I was able to bring it in and get so me points on Jake." Ze mke, mea nwh ile, w ould come fro m 28th to finish third, just 5.327 sec o nds behind Bost rom , after the Erion team thrashed to make Ze mke's bike race worthy before the restart. After the green nag, Zemke rod e like a man possessed, slashing his way thro ugh to salvage any chance he has to take the title away from Duhamel. "I was actually just worried abou t getting into the race," Zemke said. " l uckily I was able to get back in the race . The guys did a great job putting the bike bac k together. The crew did an unbel ievable job. They had to rip that motorcycle totally apart to get me back out. We missed the warm-up lap, and w e d idn't have time to change the front tire. luckily it all worked out , and I was happ y to see Ben and not Miguel win the race . It was good to see that Ben decided to race [FX] th is weekend . Miguel would probably disagree with me on that one." Gobert finished fourth , followed by Valvoline Emgo Suzuk i's Vince nt Haskovec, HMC Ducati 's Doug Chandler, Star Motorcycle Suzuki's Jason Pridmore , Triangle Cycle Yamaha's larry Pegram , lion Racing Suzuki rider Nicky Moore , and Hal's HarleyDavidso n's Mike Cicco to , the Buell rider completing the top 10. eN MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA MONTEREY, CAUFORNIA RESULTS: JULY 10, 2004 (ROUND www.washougalmx.com DIREcnONS: 1 ·20510 fNIY 14, GO EAST TOWASHOUGAL, 15thST lURN LEFT, GO ., 8 MILES, lURN LEFT ON ALDER RD /412th, LEFTON BORIN RD.
