South Fork Dirt Riders Track Championship Round 5: South Fork Dirt Riders Durbin Takes Taylorville By BROC MIKEL TAYLORVILLE, IL, JUNE 13 T he South For k Dirt Ri ders set a new record for rider turnout! In fact, every race th is year has been a record-setting even t. With the track changes and new -style dirt, along with a tight, we ll-run program , the ride r count is only going to rise. Another plus is the fact that the weather has been very kind to South Fork, and this day was no exceptio n: The sun was bright, and with the help of a little rain, the track was in perfect shape . O ne ride r who was back o n the scene, help ing t o crank up th at rider cou nt, was a longtime local favorite. B&J Speed Shop-backed Yamaha rider Alex Rossetto. He hasn 't bee n racing much this yea r, and it's always good to see him back at th e tr ack. Rosse t to had his hands full in the Four-Stroke Pro class. Yamaha rider Wayne Ginde r was on the gas in the first moto . Rossetto was riding fast but had Honda ride r De rek Birckenkam p t o con te nd w it h. Ginder took the first-mote win, with Rossetto sec on d and Birckenkamp th ird . In the sec ond mete . Ginder again put his Yamaha out front for the moto and overall win. Ro ssetto finished second and se cond ove rall, w ith Birkenkam p third and th ird overall. In the Over 30 A class. Rossetto fo und the speed that's made him a longtime champion. For Rossetto, this race was as easy as one, two , three. That's bec ause the finishing order for bo t h moto s and th e overall were the sa me : Rossetto put his four-stroke Yamaha across the line for first overall, with Honda rider Toby Leaf seco nd overall and Husky ride r Randy Southard third overa ll. In th e 125cc A class , th e gate was mo re crowded tha n it's been all year. Everyone knew this would be a great race . With Suzuki jockey Shea Knuth on the line, the rest of the pack had their work cut out for the m. W hen the gate dropped for the first mote. Knuth wasted no time gett ing to the front and r unnin g away fr o m t he pack for the win . 62 Yamaha rider Josh Durbin finished seco nd, and Birckenkamp was third. W hen t he gate d ropp ed fo r t he se cond mota, it fe lt like the whole world turned upside down. The fron t-run ners were riding all ove r the place. Durbin ran like a dog fro m the pack and took the moto and overallwin. Honda rider Sean Kincaid finished second. and Yamaha rider Chris Schmulbach finished third. Birckenkamp finished seco nd overall with a 3-5 score, and third overa ll went to Ki ncaid (7-2). It just goes to show tha t you never know what can happe n in th is sport. Durbin also too k bot h motos and the overall win in the 14-24 A class. R ESULTS 50 S HAFT: I. Alex Johnson . 50 JR: I. Ca ton Co x: 2. Danielle Girigo letti; 3. Troy Bandy. 50 S R: I. Zach Loehr; 2.
