Cory Dowda put together two perfect moto wins for the to p podium spot in the SOcc (12-15) class . justin Morris used his Kawasak i to fetch se cond overall and to make sure the podium wasn't all yellow. Suzuki-mounted Matthew Timm had the gason but had to sett le for third . When the 60 -S0cc Preteen class left the line. jake Wilson rode his Suzuki to both mota wins . Hayden O 'Kelley, on his Cycle City Power Sports Ho nd a , w as the r un ne r- u p wi th two strong second-pla ce finishes . Tanner McCullers used his scr eaming Suzuk i to be st all the re st for the third podium posit ion. Matt Turner took the o verall wi t h a last mota win in the Unlimited Ama teur class. Brae Hinckley used his fast Suzuki to take second overall. Yamaha rider Sam Suth erin made sure that third was his. Th e 12Scc C division was one of the largest. Austi n Dru mmo nd used his Freewh eelinglLSDtu ned Honda to ge t two holes hots and the n to ge t away fo r the overall. Yamaha rider Travis Turner (3-3) was second overa ll, and Matt , on another Yamaha, sec ured the last pod ium spot. When th e 250cc C gate d ropped, Ho nda pilot Brent Litt le obtained t he overall after passing Robert McGrew a couple of times . David Seals was good for third overallafter a spill. The 250cc A riders put on a good show. Ryan Nolan used his H&H KTMto get the overail with a seco nd- mo to win . Suzuki jockey jadd Knox did the deal for second ove ra ll. Once Fast Andy's the Boy in Central Illinoisl By BUD NORTHRUP NEOGA, IL, JUNE 12 T he Central Illinois Motorcycle C lub he ld its second doubleheader hillclimb o f the year, and "f ast Andy " Fortner too k ho me t he Fast Time trophy and a $100 cash prize from the Saturday night event. Riding his CRSoo , Fortner overtook Cody Jenner in the second round in the 600cc class. jenner had set the class ' fast time at 3.0 78 seconds on his second ride , sfipping under Fortner's 3.IO I-second t ime in the first round . Matt Peters, however, had run the fastest tim e of the night on his CR2S0 , 3.060 seconds, to win the 250cc class. But fast Andy w as up to the challenge, and he gr abb ed a handful of throttle and new his Hon da over the top in a blistering 2.878 seconds to take both the 600ce-c1ass win and the fast TIme award. Peters still had a good night. however, as he cla imed wi ns in bot h the 250c( and 4S 0cc classes . Riding his classy KTM 380 , Peters came from beh ind in the second rou nd of the 450cc class for tha t win. Paul Hillard had posted a 3.37 I-seco nd time o n his high-flying 350cc twin cylinde r Y amah a to take the first-round lea d, but Peters re sponded in the second round with a fast 3. I28-second run to take the class win . jason Nort hrup also had a double -win even ing, tak ing the 750cc-c1ass victory o n his Kawa sak i t r iple w ith a 3.277-second time , ove rt ak ing Hillard, w ho had just turned in a 3.6 I2·second run on his trip le. In Open -class action, Steve Shafer to ok th e first-round lead on his smooth-running Harley with a 3.737-second run , after Nort hrup had a > ro ugh 4 .090-second att emp t. In the second round , however, Northrup straightened the jeff Thomas-built I220cc Yamaha and sailed it over the to p in 3.128 sec onds to take the win . Veteran Ron Todd was also a double winner, tak ing t he wins in both the Senior (O ve r 40) and Super Senior (Over 50) classes. The track w as, as alwa ys, the best, and the riders ke pt rolling in th e gat e . which slightly de layed th e start. The spe ctators hustled to get to the ir seats as the first class sta ged . The 50cc Shaft class was Braden Bu nke r territory, as he got out from on th e starts and refused to ta ke anything but t he top po d ium position. Austin jenkins used a good last mota to ed ge out Logan Rainwater for second overall. Racing Enterprises Motorsports promoter Frank Th omason and his cre w made sure the track was ke pt moist and in excellent cond ition all day long for the large turnout o f riders. In the past few months, on e of t he most competitive classes at REM eve nts has been the 250 cc Int ermediate d ivision . Thi s w e ek, I I riders showed up to d o battle. an d the ra cing action was inten se . Hon da CRF450R-mounted Robby Bell took th e measure o f th e pack with the overall class win: though he had to battle hard ea r ly on in both moto s. he ev e nt ua lly prevailed e ac h t im e o ut b y a c o m fo r ta b le margin. Sean Borkenhagen and Kurtis Kaelin d iced it up in both rnotos, and when all was said and do ne , Borken hagen e arn ed the runn er-up slot via his 3-2 rid es , while Kae lin, who just recently moved up to th is class, took a strong t hird-place finish with his 5-3 efforts. Walker (6-4 ) claimed fourth , and justin jo nes (3-7) w as fifth. With 17 rid ers in attendance, there we re a lot o f full gates on the starting line in the Vet Beginner class. jeff Tubbs w en t home with the top hon ors o n the da y, as the Honda pilot turn ed in a perfect 1· 1 showing. james Standari was best of the res t , as he put in a couple of good rid es , chas ing Stubbs in each race, but eventually he w as forc ed to settle for a close second-plac e ov erall finis h wit h s t e ad y 2-2 scores. Y ama ha ride r Dou g Anderson put in a stellar second m ota, and his S ~3 rides were good enough to place him third ove rall, w hile Suzuki-mounted Per ry Ro d e nbeck (4 - 5) was fourth , and Mike Mills (6-S) was fifth.
