Of course , it wasn't your garden -variety GS. Lewis said it was built by one of the mechan ics who worked on BMW's Dakar team that Lewis rod e for a few years ago. More than one competitor exclaimed, "That thing was so fast!" An lronrnan-class entry took first Amateur honors . In fact, Dav id Pearson of Boulder, Colorado, also beat the Ironman Experts to the finish line, taking his Lemco/MSRI RevlocAuto Clutch-backed XR6S0Rto 19th overall bike/A1V in 10:22:06. The next Amateur was an Over 40 team that finished more than 4S minutes later. www.cycle news .com CYC LE N EWS • JULY 14,2004 53
