DAVANPORT The Over 40 Experts blasted off the line with Robert Neeley leading the pack, but Kevin Kline took over first, closely followed by Osca r Gaetan , Lewis, Jeffrey Beerbower and Clark. Neeley miscued , falling to seventh , well behind the front runners. Lewis motored his Honda from third into the lead on lap two and stayed the re to the fin ish, followed by Gaetan , Kline and Neeley, who worked his way back to fourth by the checkers. Gaeton nabbed the moto-two holeshot, with Neeley, Lewis and Kline in tow. The top four held the ir positions until the final com er on the last lap, when Gaetan and Nee ley used different lines while passing a lapped rider; Neeley 's inside charge propelled him to the moto win. However, Gaetan's consistent 2-2 finishes earned the overall, over Lewis ( 1-3) and Nee ley (4-1). Yamaha riders John Lewis and Dan Towning staged a classic game of followthe- leader in the Historic 500cc Intermediate class. John took the holeshot in both motes, with Towning hot on his heels. On the last lap of the final rnoto, Towningstalled his bike, givingJohn his only comfortable lead of the day, re sulting in I-I moto finishes for first overall for the Kentucky ride r. Towning quickly resta rted without losing a position, finishing second in the moto and overall with a 2-2 tally. J.D. Piper used his mud-riding experience to best a large field of Over 40 Intermediates. His 1-2 punch was good enough to take the class w in, over Mike Brillant i (3-4), Mark Hosbac h (2-5), Mitch Keller (B-1) and David Mechler (5-7). CN IJNCOLN TRAIL MOTOSPORTS CASEY, IW N OI S RESULTS: JUNE John Lewis (IU) stayed oheod of Dan Towning (528) and the rest of the Historic 500cc Intermediates for wire-to-wire wins in both motos at round eight of the AHRMA Northwest Moico & CZ/Pro-Flo Post-Vintage Motocross Series. 12, 2004 ems RMA motocross pa rticipants and fans eagerly await the annual Casey round of the Northwest Malco & Z/Pro -Flo Post Vintage Motocross Series. This year, unfortunately, the only booming sounds of the early morning were provided by Mother Nature , who greeted visitors with two major downpours, com plete with thunder and lightning, that turned the nicely prepped layo ut int o a slimy mess . Although the track was far from perfect, the hard-working staff managed to man ipulate the quagmire into raceable cond ition within a few hours . Good starts were a necessity, because th ere were limited good lines to choose from , and passing proved to be difficult. The Open Age Expert class blasted A 58 through the muddy first turn with Hondamounted Don Lewis on the inside and Yamaha rider James Greenleaf power-sliding on the outside. It appeared that Greenleaf's move would enable him to exit the second tum as the leader, but a bobble followed by another rider tangling with his downed Yamahaled to Lewis' taking the top position, with Matthew Van Meter and Jeremy Brewington close behind in second and third. The top three remained the same thro ughout the moto. Suzuki jockey Jeffrey Clark finished fourth . Greenleaf, unable to make up the 2S-secv ond deficit, rounded out the top ft e, Lewis again led the charge at the start of moto two , and he held that position to the checkered nag, with Brewington and Greenleaf following, in that order, in the moto and overall.
