As the trac tors pulled off the track, it was still a tad muddy, but a far cry from the muck it had bee n ear lier. The tr ack was in great shape co me mota time, and everyone was ready for actlonl In the co mbined 85c c Seni o r and junio r contest , V Wilson got things rolling with a .j. good start . Before the complet ion of the first lap of t he night , Junior rider Todd Bloxham made his move on Wilson and dec ided to tum up the wick. Jonathan Hutchins and Tyler Bean moved into third and fourth , res pectively, and t ried to match t he torrid pace se t by you ng Bloxham . Try as they might , t hough, It was Bloxham 's mo to : He won by a co mfortable margin over the fast field of riders. Wh en t he gat e d ro pp ed for moto two, Blo xham to o k t he po int posit ion and le d Hutchins, Wilson and Bl ke God in through the a first corner and immediately estab lished a very fast pace. Shortly, howeve r, Wh it e slid o ut In a corner and e ffe ctive ly handed the pos ition to God in. Meanwhile, up front, it was all Bloxham, as he checked out and crossed t he checkers w ith plenty of room to spare ahead of Hutchins, Wilson and God in. The School boy class got off to a splendid start, as Honda 12Scc rider Dalton Hill led the pack into the first corner, followed by CR2S0Fmo unted jac o b Russell and the n Blo xha m, aboard his RM8S. Hill, o ut front and free of tr afftc , was able t o put som e re al estate betwe e n himse lf and the rest of t he pac k. Though Bloxham made his way past Russell, there was too much ground to make up on Hill , who wo uld win the mota . When the white flag came ou t, the spectators all got to their feet, expect ing to see a fight to t he finis h. T hey w eren ' t disappo inted , as Hill just bare ly maintained his lead ahead of Bloxham as they circulated the track. With two corn ers left, Bloxham went for a daredevil pass on the inside, but Hill shut the doo r on the smaller, younger rider and took the mota win. Bloxham wen t o n to finish se co nd in the 85cc O pen class. run at Racetown 39S Motorcycle Park was a big success. The event featured a 7-mile course that mixed the mo tocross portions of the facility with long loop s out into the open desert. The t rack w as pr epped to pe rfect io n, and since event promo ter Scott Haydis had the foresight to cut wate r-truck pat hs right alongside th e e ntir e le ngt h o f t he d e se rt se ctio ns , the y remained dust-free all day. Half-mile-Iong sections of deep whoops led directly into lengthy sect ions of fifth-gear, wide-open sand was hes, which then came to an abrupt halt before funneling riders back onto the motocross port ions of the course . Needless to say, each lap of the 4S-minute races was a challenge for all the competitors, and the finisher pins they received at t he end commemorated their accomplishments. Mike Borowski and his son jordan came out to take care of business. Mike topped the Vet No vice race , w hile jordan followed in pop 's footsteps by besti ng the SScc Novice con test. Jordan didn't have an easy time of it in his race, as he had to charge hard t he w ho le way to overcome a poor start before prevailing at the end w ith a stellar effort. O ne of t he larges t classes on the day was the 100-200cc Beginner class, and when t he chec ke re d flag event ually ca me out, it was Travis Woo ds w ho saw it first, taking a welldeserved win. Matt hew Gamboa led early on and kept Woods honest the whole race fo r a stro ng runner-up finish, while joh n Ford filled out the top three slots with a solid ride . Ricard o Barbosa made sho rt wo rk o f the Senior Novice ranks as he score d an impressive wt re -ro -wtr e victory.
