Sunflower Series Raund 3: Dragoon Cre e k MX Tratk Tajchman Takes It By DAWN SITZ LYNDON, KS, MAY 23 eing chased by a KTM and two Kawasakis in the 65cc (7-8) class , Suzuki rider Trista n Hughes charged hard and kept his RM65 out in front of them . But KTM rider Tucker Smith and Kawasak i joc key s Neil Tajchma n a nd Ale x Broo ks we re not about to give up. Brooks and Tajchman put on a good race of the ir own, diving for third. All the racers pushed hard , but when the chec kered flag dr opped, it was Hughes who came in first. After the second mota. it was Tajchman w it h the overall, and H ughes was seco nd overall, with Smith third overall. With motocr oss increasing in popular ity, mo re and mo re peo ple are getting into t he sport. The Sunflower Series has instituted a new class for small four-stroke bikes, the Small FourStroke Open class. Yamaha rider Sierra O rdonez w as not about t o let any boy beat her: She charged hard on her TTR90 and finished up in first. Yamaha rider je sse jen kins didn't let her win that easily; he ran a great race, but Ordonez just would not give up . She pushed hard and pulle d away from je nkins fo r the mota win . When all was said and done. Yamaha-mounted Came ro n Warner took the overall win. The 125cc Beginner class also had its share of grea t races. jake Schneider. riding his Yamaha, was racing with Honda ride r Jeff Becker. While battling b ac k an d fo rt h , these two true beginners wer e pushing hard . Schneider wasn't about to give up; Becker might pull away in the corners, but Schneider would always catch right B 62 back up. They pushed each ot her to ride harder and harder. Schne ider would show Be cker a wheel, but when the che cke red flag dr o pped, Becker was ahea d of Schneider, though but not by much. Overall . JUNE 30, 2004 • CYCLE NEWS o und t w o o f Wi ldcat Creek MX a nd Wabas h Cannon ba ll MX's first-ever Gold MX Series, p resented by Spect ra Oil s a nd Th rottle Jockey, had a slightly bett er turnout than rou nd one, with ISO riders on hand. The races got off to a great start, but thunde rstorms hit du r ing one race in the second rou nd of mot os , cance ling the re mainder of the events. Be n Grave s had a great day, taking bot h moto wins in the 16-24 class, as we ll as the win in the single-moto 250cc A class, on a Factory Co nnection/Azonic Yamaha. Graves nailed the holeshot in the first moto of the 16-24 class, in fro nt of Aaro n Yoder, on an EYS/ Maple City Cycle Kawasaki. and Chris Burche tt, o n an A&P Se rvices Ho nda . Yoder pressured Graves th roughout the entire moto but cou ldn't make the pass. Burchett finished th ird , fo llow ed by Brandon Ro ss. o n a Max Pitts/American Eagle Racing Suzuki, and Honda rider Travis King. Graves nailed the start again in the second moto, in front of Yoder, but the rain started to co me down har d . The track got slic k, an d Yoder barely held the lead at the en d of the first lap. The tw o riders were banging bars in the turn after the finish line. Graves battl ed back and retook t he lead for the win , with Yoder staying close to the finish. Burche tt finished a strong t hird again, followed by Yamaha ride r Skyler Sells and Aaron W hite, on an AM Racing Yamaha. Th e top th ree finished th e same in both motos . White finished fourth overall with a 6-5 tally, edg ing o ut King (S-6). Graves too k the holeshot for the wire-to-wire w in in th e 250cc A class . james Tho mp so n finished second on a Simpsorv'R& D Motorsports Y amaha, follow ed by Yamaharider Denick Dewitt and Hond a jockeys Nick Yoder and KyleHuening. Donald Baker dom inated the Over 2S A and Over 30 A classes, taking bot h mota wins on a Thrott le jockey/ Lake City Honda . Baker nailed the holeshot in both classes and we nt wire to wi re for the win in both motes. Nick finished a dose second in the Over 25 A mote, followed closely by Yamaha jockey Jose ph Behe r. Joe Quick Jr. too k fo urth place on a Honda, ahead of Yama ha-mounted Ph illip Ha rd y. Beher finished a close second to Bake r in the Over 30 A class, and Yamaha rider Richard Blacketer finished third, in fro nt of Hardy.
