,
t seems like just yesterday that Andrew
Couto was barding it out at the fro nt of the
8Scc (12-13) class with the California Racing
Club. Couto recently made the jump up to the
full -sized bikes , and w ith much the same
res ults. as he easily went I-I to dominate the
12Scc Beginner class at Lo s Angeles Co unty
Raceway during round four of the 27th annual
I
ru nning of the J.B . Memorial Dunestown
Series.
When the nearly fu ll gate of 12Scc
Beginners slid their way through the first turn ,
Ch ris Pullia m held a slight adva ntage over
Co uto , jared Brow n, Broc Condon and josh
Erickson. Pulliam's reign lasted a little over half
a lap before Co uto found his way into the lead.
Couto put a coup le of seconds on Pulliam on
the following circuit and then upped the pace
to eventually take the win by a commanding
margin on his O 'NeaV66l1CEF-backed Suzuki.
Brown and Condon were inseparab le
throughout t he race and ended up finishing
second and third, respectively. Brent Reyes put
a last-lap pass on Pulliam for fourth .
Couto wasted little time making it to the
fr on t of the pac k in moto two , ahead of
Brown , Reyes and Matt Babbitt. By lap two ,
Co uto had a comfortable IO-second cushio n
over a good battle for second between Brown
and Reyes. Couto would more tha n doub le the
size of his lead before the checkers for an
impre ssive I- I showing. Brown too k home the
seco nd-place tro phy on 2-2 rides , with
Condon co ming from out of the pack in mota
two to finish third for third overall.
Team Green's Chris Plouffe dominated both
t he 8Scc (7- 11) and Supermini ran ks.
Consistently good starts and runaway victor ies
were on order for Plouffe on this day. Fellow
Kawasaki rider Steven Tokarski was runner-up
after that I started to get the hang of it again,"
Bor eing said of his co me back . W l1en asked
about his future plans, he answer ed , "I think I'm
just going to ge t back into it slowly right now. I
just got so burned out before."
Taking sixth overall was AA rider Lando n
C ar ter, wh o w as fo llo w ed by Ve t A rid e r
Darre n Pittman in seve nth.
"I thought I was having a bad day," Pitt man
said, "but when I loo ked at the scores , I realized
I didn't do th at bad afte r all. I busted a che ck
early on, and that messed me up a little, but after
the race, I found out the check was off and they
wer e throwing it out, so I came out all right."
Finishing th e to p- 10 line up wa s A 2S0cc
race r Fran k Davis in eight h, AA ride r Kevin
Hutchinson in ninth, and O pen A rider Ste ve
Nicholas in l O .
