At the e nd, Merriott too k the Four-Stroke win, with McCutcheo n second and Tony Moore third. King a bscon ded w it h th e se co nd- m o to holeshot, follow ed by Moore and McCutcheon. Thurma n again had to co me through the pack, but he snatched the lead from O pen rider Mark Whatcott. As the gro up began to spread out, McCutch eo n got a round King a nd Moo re . When the checke rs flew, it was Th urman way out front, followed by Open rider Wha tco tt and then McCutcheon, w ho took the overall honors for his con sisten t finishes. Excit e men t grew as the O ve r 30 Expert class began manning the ir stations on the gate before their first mota. Woody Harvin launched his mighty KTM 4S0 ove r th e gate we ll befo re it w as m e ant t o d r o p . W ith an e no rmo us "Ca rmichae lesque " ho leshot on t he field , it looked like Harvin may very we ll have t his one in the bag, but with seven laps to go, anything co uld happe n. W ell be h ind Ha rvi n, Joh nny Williams, McCu tc heo n and Bill Eddy were o n the gas and making the ir way toward th e front. W illiams too k over the lead as the second lap sta rted, while Harvin began to fall off the pace. Meanwh ile, McCutcheo n began to put on the pr essu re , atte mpt ing to fo rc e W illiam s int o making a mistake. It didn't take long, either, as McCu tc heon placed his RMZ2S0 in th e lea d and ne ve r loo ked b ac k. W illiam s foll owed in second, ahead of Moore. As the final mo to of the night neared , th e O ve r 30 Experts added to the exciteme nt in the air wit h the aro ma of Be n Gay and some ta lk o f go lf.
