Eddie Mulder's West Coast Vintage Dirt Track Series Round 3 : Tulare Cycle Park A Harrell Razing Experience t 's becoming very apparent that Steve and Rick, the powers that be at Tulare Cycle Park. have track prep down to a science. For round three of the West Coast Vintage Dirt Track Series, presented by K&N Filters and Maxxis Tires, the track was once again spoton. Another high point of the day was that series sponsor RayAbrams of A&A Racingcelebrated his birt hday at this gathering. Rumored to be 102 (though nobody believed it!), this legend is wished the best by all! By 8 p.m., 21 heats (including some I 16 riders) had been we re completed, and it was off to the mains! Barnett Clutches and Cables sponsored the Senior main event for participants over SO on machines from 1974 or earlier. Heat winner Gary White, with the fastest lap time in this class at 20.58 seconds. started on the outside of the front row, but it was Bob Scally who nailed the start. White ran second. with Bob Graves third and Joe Brown fourth. On lap three, Scally put in a 20.48-second lap as he inched away. Graves was under attack from Brown as the front four left the rest of the pack far behind. White bobbled on the back straight, letting Graves and Brown close the gap . Brown. working the high line. was pressuring hard at the white flag. Scally had a two-bikelength gap over White. Graves and Brown. Going down the back straight for the last time , Graves charged and pulled alongside White, only to pull a "Laugh-In tricycle trick" in turn three and tip over. At the finish, it was Scally, White and Brown. The Digger Helm Pro 600cc contest had 21 Pros come through three heat races and a semi for a field of 14 staged in three rows for the main. Track record holder Jimmy Wood opted I ride r Christina Follari posted 2-2 finishes on the scoreboa rd , which gave her second ove rall. Samantha Downey from nearby Santa Clara rounded out the top three, finishing 3-3 on her Honda CR. for the outside of the front row for his starting gate, but it was Don nie Harrell who razed the competition. jumping out in front or Graham. Washington's Sam and Jethro Halbert . O n this first lap of IS, Wood ran fifth, behind his cousin Alex. By lap two, Harrell was getting away, while Jimmy was fighting with the Halberts. On lap fo ur, Jimmy pushed his way into second, with Je t hro now ahead o f Sam. Howe v er, Harrell had a l.7-second gap over Jimmy, who went to work and was closing very slowly when. on lap seven. his hand shot skyward, indicating a blown engine. Back in the pack, there was an impressive march forward by Stevie Bonsey (making his Pro debut at Tulare), as he had to climb past Danny Ritchie, A.J. He rre ra. Daniel Brown and Alex Wood to finish fifth, Meanwhile, at the front, Harrell was gone! Flawless on the track, he cruised to victory over Je thro and Sam Halbe rt. David Brown fought his way up to fourth - a very impressive ride, to say the least. An awards presentation followed the races, with huge dollar amounts or product given out from the many sponsors. All in all, it was a great night! eN TULARE CYCLE PARK T ULARE, C AUFORNIA RESULTS: MAy 15, 2004 ( ROUND Donnie Harrell topped the Digger Helm Pro 600cc main event at ro und three of Edd ie Mulder's West Coa st Vintage Dirt Track Series . 3) YTH so: I Andre Ochs YTH 60: I .
