Holeshot Motocro ss Pork Cannonball Explodes into the WoodsI Bv Rov JENKINS LORANGER, LA, MAY 8 D acers had a tou ch of cabin fever after having f\.been rained out the pre vious two weekends and were eage r to put their spe ed on display. The weather was a perfect 75 degree s, and the track was dry under th e piercing Louisiana sun. Sho rt ly after the races started, the sun set, the lights cam e on , and th e du st sub sided. The bullets sta rt ed flying right away in the first mo t o of th e Schoolbo y class . Canton , Mississippi's Johnny Moore got his " Got Gear " Kawasa ki 250 F out fro nt earl y, ah ead of Y oungsville ace Chad Dubroc . Jason Scanlan and Bryce Landry. Dubroc was able to maneuver his Champion Cycl e KTM pa st Moore and com pany just in time for the checker ed flag. Moore again gated first in the second mota, but soo n Dubro c emerged from the pack t o challenge him. Ha lfw ay t hroug h the mo t o, Dubroc held a little mor e speed into the tum approaching the big tabletop jump. They we re side by side in the air. Dubroc ducked inside at the next hairpin tum ; they bumped, but Moore got on the gas a little quicke r and retained the le ad ov e r t he ne xt do uble . Two laps Trent Cannon cannonballed into the woods but re-joined the race in time to salvage third overall in the 250cc Money contest at Holeshot Motocross Park. The EMT who went to his rescue was not as fortunate. late r, Kennedy too k ove r second, ready for his tum at trying to pass Cannon. The orde r re mained the same to the finish line. Ken nedy jumped out to the lead ear ly in the second m ot o , pur sued by Can non , Jaso n Manue l and Dust in Manue l. Sudden ly, Cannon disappeare d off the tra ck and into the woods. The EMT on hand, named Ben, raced over on his thre e-whee ler to att end to the fallen rider and got caught in a was h-out, breaking his own leg! Three laps later, Cannon got back into the race, while Be n was taken to the hospital. " Blake and I lo cke d bar s in the air, and I went off th e track," Cannon exp lained. "I went in a st raight line through th e t rees and hit a dow ned t ree and we nt ove r the bars . I'm all right. That 's racing." The first class is o n the line , and t he 30-second board is going sideways, so grab a seat! In the 50cc Shaft contest, Hunte r Pe ndiey. on his Honda of Do raville PW50, had a great secon d m oto for t he ov e ra ll win. Loga n Rainw ate r slipp ed after a firs t -moto wi n t o capt ure second overall. Austin Je nkins was the last one to make the podium. The 50cc (4-6) class, though, was owned by Rainwater, who scored dual wins. KTM jockey July Turner's strong seco nd mot o earned second overa ll.Another fast KTM was piloted by Colton Ford, who too k the third podium spo t. Dylan Rios, on a fast Kawasaki, wo n both Youth motos easily with great rides. Hondamou nted Timmy Me issner had a couple of slips but wa s still a sol id sec o nd ove ra ll. Another Ho nda rider, Ne il Cride r, put toget he r a good ride to earn the final podium spot. The Unlimited Amate ur duel saw Kawasakimou nted Matt Wasso n spee d away w ith two m oto w ins. Fello w Kawasaki jo cke y Maso n Sealock was second overall this evening with a go o d rid e. Ya m a ha ma n Sam Su t heri n hammered his way to the last pod ium spot with a solid ride. T he 125cc C contest saw Meissner co me out on to p. Kawasaki joc key Rios learned that one moto w in won't get the overall, but it was good enough for second overa ll on this night. Yamaha-mounted Matt Smith also won a moto but wound up th ird overa ll. Honda rider Boyd Pet erse n was the one to beat in the 250cc Beginne r division , but no one did on this evening. Honda-mou nted Mark Riehl was second overall. Justin Barfield used his KTM to win t he th ird-ove rall spot with a coup le of good rides. The shows of the night we re in the 125cc A and B and 2S0 cc A and B contests . Michae l Sisemore , o n his SO BC Suzu kis, and C hri s McCo rkel, on his RHS Racing Honda, both had the hamme r down . The 125cc A contest ended up Sisemo re, Honda ride r Michael Tolbert , and Yamaha rider Chris Hollingsworth. The top I25cc B finishers we re McCo r ke l, Wasson and Sealock.
